In the early seasons Rachel the aunt was a fairly big part of the show. When she was no longer referred to on it, that would have been the time to write her son Richie off as well. With Urkel becoming more popular it was inevitable that he would start taking over the show. But it would have made more sense to not refer to Richie again and get rid of annoying Bryton McClure since his mom had also left, rather than tossing poor Judy/Jaimee Foxworth aside completely.

I always thought it was weird that Richie continued to live with the Winslows when his mom clearly didn't anymore. They didn't give an explanation for her absence (to my knowledge) at the time, she was just gone, yet her son remained there. So, you're right. They should have kept Judy and ditched Richie.

I hate to see anyone (let alone a child) get Chuck Cunninghammed, but if someone had to be cut, it certainly should have been a cousin, rather than a close family member. With Rachel no longer there, it was odd that her son was still with the Winslows.

I see what you mean, but I guess that there are two reasons why they chose to keep Richie instead of Judy.

1: When they decided to get rid of Jaimee Foxworth, Bryton McClure was still a cute little kid. Jaimee though was a pre-teen and not as "cute" anymore, so the poor girl was ignored.

2: There seemed to be problems between Jaimee's mother and the producers, so everybody was glad to get that family off their back. There are no such stories about Bryton's parents.

^^^ But then Bryton's character eventually disappeared as well to make room for Three Jay's adoption story line.

We can simply pretend that Richie went to live with his mother off screen. That is what I do.
