Gen-TV News & Rumors: ---A Hollywood Now Report Here are the latest happenings, rumors and gossip out of Hollywood and in this case, specifically Gen-TV Studios (and it's signature brand of TV networks). ---Grand Jury is getting a bit of star power in the new year. The freshmen drama is already performing above expectations, but sources say that executives at Gen-TV feel the show has potential to do better and needs a star with bigger star wattage. With that said, Gen-TV has confirmed that they have fired Anika Noni Rose and her character Marlena Wesley is being phased out of the show. Speaking on this news, Executive Producer John Tram said "We are very grateful to Anika for her time, her talent and her professionalism, but we have decided to go in a different direction with the show and with its characters." To fill the void left by its lead actress being fired, Gen-TV has hired a bonafide superstar to headline the series, Dennis Quaid has been tapped to portray the newly created role of Supervising Federal Prosecutor Frank Montella, described as "Rough around the edges, often sharp tongued and always to the point. He is a tough as nails prosecutor who is looking for redemption after his recent divorce cost him his job at the law firm he built his career at, which is owned by his now ex-wife and her father." "He is looking to rebuild his career and has a lot to prove." As Marlena's role as chief of the department is now being filled by Frank; who has a higher rank and title than her, Grant Hathaway (played by Warren Kole) will remain in the cast, but will fill the role of Assistant Supervising Federal Prosecutor instead of Assistant Federal Prosecutor. Gen-TV has also confirmed that they have hired three other actors to appear in newly created roles on the series. Jennifer Carpenter (The Enemy Within, Limitless, Dexter) has been tapped to play the newly created role of Assistant Federal Prosecutor Michelle Hargrove; who will take the vacancy created by Grant's promotion, and lastly; Chris Klein (The Flash; Wilfred) has snagged a supporting role as Junior Federal Prosecutor Ivan Hamilton. |

--Gen-TV's Most Profitable Show Ever? This past summer Hollywood Now started counting down Gen-TV's most profitable shows ever, leading up to our big reveal of the #1 most profitable show in Gen-TV history. Due to breaking world events we never finished publishing the remainder of the list. Here now, is the next chapter of that list, albeit in an abbreviated form than originally intended. 15. Detective Mom: Airing for 8 seasons between 2012 and 2016, "Detective Mom" was an out of the box success and a huge surprise for Gen-TV. The series instantly clicked with viewers in an unexpected way and became a much more successful show than its premise or execution deserved. Over the course of eight seasons it managed to become Gen-TV's #2 comedy series (often narrowly being defeated by "Over My Head.") It was named Top Comedy by AFI twice and was voted Best Comedy by the Television Critics Association twice. Among female viewers; aged 21-30 it was Gen-TV's top-rated comedy four years consecutively, easily trumping "Over My Head." Internationally it had great success, airing in over 30 countries and becoming a top-rated program in 15 of those. It has had a strong shelf life in syndication where it continues to air on local stations daily in the US; and remains a favorite with cable networks. It currently airs on no less than 7 cable or streaming services in the US. It sold well on DVD and Blu-Ray as well; with the entire series being released between 2015 and 2016. Overall Profits: 180.24 million dollars 14. Selling Out: Oddly enough, this series which was just cancelled by Gen-TV and hasn't even entered syndication yet has remarkably generated an absurd amount of money for Gen-TV. The majority of its profits have come from merchandising and ad sales. Because the series has attracted an upscale audience it has generated more ad dollars than most Gen-TV series will ever. It is a critic's darling, winning numerous awards and has broken viewership records on Hulu where it is the most-streamed single camera sitcom in their history; easily beating out "The Office", "30 Rock" and "Parks & Recreation." Overall Profits: 184.28 million dollars 13. One Of These Days: Perhaps this is the show that "put Gen-TV on the map", perhaps it's another show. That is up for debate, but what isn't up for debate is that "One of These Days" was a breakthrough success for Gen-TV. It helped the network gain credibility with its cast that included Angie Harmon, Marla Sokoloff and Lacey Chabert. It won nearly every award under the sun; including multiple Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Awards. It broke records when it sold into syndication for a massive 3.2 million dollars per episode; and stunned everyone when it debuted in syndication as the #1 rated series in off-network syndication. It's popularity has cooled in recent years, but it remains available on Stream-Me; Sony Crackle and has continued to sell well on Blu-Ray and DVD. Overall Profits: 184.45 million dollars 12. 1-2-3 Cook: This instrucional cooking show produced by Gen-TV Studios has become the most popular show in the culinary space and has won the Daytime Emmy Award for Best Interactive Show three times and the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Culinary Host four times. It has aired on two different networks and has become a merchandising sensation. However, most of the profits from this show have come from it's Live Interactive Stage show which travels to casinos and other performance venues throughout the year. Overall Profits: 187.83 million dollars 11. Malibu Country Club: Believe it or not, this summertime soap opera has generated a very large sum of money for Gen-TV. Primarily through international syndication where it has remained a perennial favorite and is among the most popular US-produced series to ever air in parts of Europe and South America. It ran for 7 seasons on Gen-TV (2012-2016) and was a annual summer treat. It has been released on DVD and Blu-Ray with the entire series released between 2014 and 2017. It entered broadcast syndication in 2015 but only lasted six months before it was pulled by Gen-TV for generating poor viewership. It was a so-so performer on streaming sites. It's profits continue to come from international airings. Overall Profits: 188.83 million dollars 10. Perfection: Launched in 2009 alongside "Clue", this popular game show based on a well known board game lasted a season longer than "Clue" and typically always had ratings at least 15% higher than "Clue." It was a huge success for Gen-TV launching in primetime before being moved to daytime and becoming Gen-TV's first attempt at selling a show into national first-run syndication. It was a gamble that paid off in spades. It was the #1 or #2 rated game show in the USA for nearly six years straight. Overall Profits: 188.93 dollars 9. Family Court: Launched in 2016, initially only on Gen-TV stations; this daytime court show was sold into syndication in 2017 and was the first daytime court show to push "Judge Judy" out of the #1 spot among court shows. Despite a controversial premise it has earned accolades from the American Psychological Association and the American Family Counsel. Overall Profits: 189.93 million dollars 8. Elizabeth Bordoe: Airing for 6 seasons (ending in 2014), this comedy series starred Elizabeth Banks as a pathetic but ambitious lounge singer in Las Vegas. It earned critical acclaim and a devoted following. It has done fantastically well in syndication, where it currently airs in local syndication and on ten different cable networks and streaming services. It has done well internationally and sells well on home video. Overall Profits: 190.3 million dollars |

---Christopher's Courage Flops at Gen-TV Gen-TV's Christmas Eve special "Christopher's Courage" was a huge flop for the network, garnering only 7.2 million viewers and a 2.2 in demos. A huge letdown compared to the estimated 15 million viewers that industry experts were projecting would view the live special. Considering the cost of producing this star-studded event the special was a huge loss for Gen-TV. Reportedly the event cost over 4 million dollars to produce. |

Here now, is the next chapter of that list, albeit in an abbreviated form than originally intended. 7. Tag Team: Airing across six seasons between 2012 and 2016; this inventive and surprisingly clever family sitcom following a pro wrestler (played by Mike "The Miz" Mizanin) forced to retire following an injury who starts working for his estranged brothers (Josh Meyers) construction company. This family friendly comedy was a surprise hit when it debuted in summer 2012 and maintained a loyal fanbase throughout its successful run. The success of the show even earned its two stars Golden Globe Nominations in 2013. Maintaining its ratings wasn't the only thing this clever series did; it instantly became a profit center for Gen-TV earning over 110 million dollars in merchandising between 2012 and 2014 alone. It entered off-network syndication in 2015 and has remained a staple there ever since; it currently ranks among the Top 40 off-network series on television. It has aired reruns on MTV 2, TBS, TV Land, Laff TV, Antenna TV, ME TV, Logo, and has streamed on Hulu, Sony Crackle and CBS All Access. In 2016 the exclusive streaming rights were moved over to Stream-Me where it has ranked consistently among the top 4 most-streamed series on the platform. Internationally this show has become a massive success; ranked within the top 2 American series shown in over a dozen countries. It has virtually never lost a timeslot battle in Germany; ranking #1 almost every time it has aired in that country. Overall, this show that doesn't get much press now seems to continue building new audiences every day. Overall Profits: 198.57 million dollars 6. Magic School: Considering this pre-school series has only been on the air for four seasons and recently moved to daytime its a bit of a surprise to see how profitable this show has become. The more shocking part is how much of this profit is derived from merchandising; nearly 77% of the profit from this show has been from merchandising and second-run. Live original episodes account for only 4% of the profits this show has provided for Gen-TV. Consistently ranked within the top 4 pre-school series on TV; "Magic School" has become a true profit center for Gen-TV and doesn't show any signs of slowing down. Overall Profits: 199.93 million dollars 5. Over My Head: Running for 13 seasons (Gen-TV's longest-running series ever) and amassing nearly every award known to man; it is no surprise that Over My Head ranks within the top 5 most profitable Gen-TV series ever. When it entered off-network syndication it instantly became the #1 most-watched series in syndication; a title it held onto until May 2017 when "The Big Bang Theory" dethroned it. It has been a success in nearly every metric. International syndication, yes; Streaming and DVD/Blu-Ray sales? yes. Merchandising? You betcha. Merchandising accounts for nearly 60% of the shows profits; with the remainder split evenly between streaming and international syndication. Overall Profits: 201.34 million dollars 4. Sisters: It's no secret that Gen-TV longest-running drama series ever ran for 12 seasons and was among the most acclaimed series ever. It's also no secret that it remains popular in reruns and in DVD/Blu Ray Sales. It still ranks within the top 7 second-run series on TV and it's streaming views place it among the top 10 most-streamed show in history. Sisters continues to rake in profits day after day; as it becomes available in more and more countries. Overall Profits: 223.4 million dollars |

After the success of You've Gone Apeshit Charlie Brown on RMTV we have decided to follow up with a limited run series that will run from now until June called The Charlie Brown Chronicles which follows everyone's favorite blockhead who by the way was found not guilty of murdering Lucy by reason of justified homicide and they never found the body from his days in the USMC, mercenary and international man of adventure to his time in the DEA as an undercover agent lots of action on this show.

--1 Month Away With just over a month until Gen-TV votes in its new Board of Directors; the election cycle is in full swing and there have been some big developments. The biggest news was Eva Vargas entering the race and she was viewed at the onset as a disrupter in this race. However, her candidacy has proven to be a non-starter and it seems that sentiments and votes are swinging away from her and in the favor of a different candidate; Benny Portman who has been leading all the recent polls by nearly a 30% margin over second-place choice Ross Chin. Polls have been conducted by Hollywood Insider and Hollywood Now where we asked members of the Gen-TV Board to select which candidate they intend to vote for and Portman has the lead with 60% of the respondents indicating they would vote for him. Ross Chin is in second place with 22% saying they intended to vote for him. Eva is actually in fourth place with only 11% of the respondents claiming her as their top choice. Of course these polls are hardly scientific and voting members could go any number of different directions. This years election is proving to be far more low-key than the 2016 election which ended up having two candidates charged on felony voter tampering charges and had the FBI called in to investigate threats levied against one candidate from another. |
