For those who haven't read MJF's book, he reveals that, in an effort to charm the producers during one of the show's first ever rehearsals, he ad-libbed the "P" when answering a phone call in a scene. Apparently they liked how it added to Alex's pompousity and stuck with that middle initial. Ah, the things found out 20 years later.
