I bought this DVD set a few months ago, I haven't watched all the episodes yet but the ones I've seen are OK, although Jack Palance as the lead character comes off a little dull and underwhelming.
Bronk was created by Carroll O'Connor and from what I understand, when Mannix didn't get renewed for a 9th season in 1975-76, Bronk took it's place on the schedule. That's too bad because I think a 9th season of Mannix would have been better. The DVD's of Bronk present the episodes uncut which is a good thing, but the bad thing is the audio levels are all over the place, some episodes sound good while others have a soft and muffled audio track, it sounds like the actors are speaking through pillows making it difficult to hear what they're saying. Cranking the volume up on the TV helps a little but not much. I can see why Bronk didn't survive past it's first and only season, it's not really a bad show but not near in the same league as Mannix. Still, thumbs up to Warner Archive for releasing this despite the audio issues. It's recommended for those who like to collect cop/detective shows from the 70's. |
