Default Season 11 MeTV airings

Just saw “The Bride Went Home” on MeTV. This episode is notable for me as it is the only one to my knowledge I still have on tape from the Odyssey years (never taped off of TV Land or earlier). I’d have to find and review the tape, but I know some scenes were cut in each airing. One that stands out is when Polly goes upstairs, she knocks on Ernie’s door. He says something like, “Nobody knocks around here, just crash in.” They have another line or two cut before the MeTV airing picks up. Also, it seems the prints on both aren’t as good as earlier in the season, or is that just me? This would still be the first half of the season.

Any other noticeable edits from these airings versus others from years ago?

You'd be right, the quality of this episode isn't as good as the earlier S11 episodes.

I actually have this episode on 16mm film, complete. It runs about 25 minutes.

IIRC the TV Land episodes from the first half of S11 and the Odyssey/Hallmark episodes have identical edits. MeTV editing, on the other hand, is somewhat different, probably because they have more episode length. I could kick myself for not taping these S11 1-12 episodes from local TV years ago, where they would have been unedited.

The part where Polly goes upstairs in The Bride Went Home is one edit on MeTV which is complete on TV Land. There's another chop toward the beginning on MeTV. With these episodes someone really misplaced the ad breaks on MeTV.

In The Power of Suggestion I recall there are a lot of little chops here and there on MeTV. One I recall re-editing is in the opening conversation between Ernie and Paula (pre-cool it).

In Ernie Drives, there's a whole scene cut from Odyssey, where Yo-Ho meets the family. Later when they're talking in Ernie's room, there are different bits of dialog cut on MeTV and Odyssey, where it's impossible to make sense of it by editing both together--too much missing.

Well, some good news--St. Louis Blues definitely looked cleaner since the last time around on MeTV.

I distinctly remember a transition where we see Steve’s plane flying to St. Louis. There was a really bad “chop” for this in the original MeTV showing. This time it was a clean transition with nothing cut. I saw only a couple of chops, one right before they were seeing Laraine and the triplets off, which had a MeTV break sandwiched in, and another chopping from a Rob and Katie bedroom scene, abruptly to Laraine in St. Louis.

Still a 16mm print, but MeTV or CBS did a little work on it.

I didn’t see it the first time on MeTV. It still doesn’t look the greatest, but I’ll take your word on it.

They kept the Viacom “pinball” logo at the end, so it’s clearly still the 70’s print.

Don't take my word for it. I had edited MeTV and Odyssey together last year, but I missed this one. I was thinking of the Odyssey version.

I just compared it with the N@N version. There are at least two missing scenes on MeTV (and Odyssey). One fairly long one with Charley and Barbara in the living room, and another one with Rob and Katie worrying about what is going on in St. Louis. Also, the scene nearer the beginning where they are outside and Laraine and the triplets are leaving is complete on Nick, but not on MeTV or Odyssey.

The TRT was 22:08 on today’s episode, about a minute shorter than the usual 23:01 on most episodes.

The Sal Mineo ep. yesterday was probably another short one. Today's should be the full 23 minutes.

Next week, Monday should be 23 minutes, Tue. short, Wed. full, Thu. full, Fri. short.

All based on last year's episodes.

If you have editing capabilities and have the Odyssey and MeTV episodes, you can edit these episodes to the following lengths:

The New Vice-President - 24:12
Robbie's Honey - same 22+
Ernie Drives - 24:26
Dodie Goes Downtown - 24:30 (Nick at Nite 25:34)
The Recital - same 22+

We NEED these old Nick at Nite episodes! In some cases N@N had the full length or nearly full length episode EVEN when both Odyssey and MeTV have a 22+ minute one. For example, #379 "Barbara Lost" (S12) -- Odyssey/MeTV approx. length 22:17, N@N length 24:57. I have the N@N version, and there's an immediate edit of the first scene on both Ody. and MeTV--full scene on N@N.

Just to vent a little, it's RIDICULOUS we have to jump through these hoops to get better-length episodes--CBS, DO SOMETHING!

I might add, it would be great to have some kind of insider contact with MeTV--these full length episodes might still be sitting at Nickelodeon, and MeTV could possibly access them and get better episodes.

All I have are Odyssey and Me-TV copies as well, no N@N copies. It is entirely possible the full length episodes are just sitting somewhere.Somebody needs to do something. It is entirely possible someone, somewhere, has all the N@N airings just sitting in their closet on forgotten tapes. I wish that were the case.

I have only a few, and I guess I'm fortunate to have those. I agree, probably someone has them in the back of a closet. I could kick myself for not having rolled the VCR back in the day. I remember watching them--they aired the black and white episodes (also mostly unedited), and then went right to S11-1/2 and then S12.

To make it slightly more complicated, at some point later N@N started to air them edited, maybe sometime in the 90s.

Ernie Drives had one of the worst prints yet, especially at the beginning.

This morning's episode, Season 11 finale "After The Honeymoon", had the V of Doom at the end. It's been a long time since I've seen it in the wild.
