Just from watching it seemed like Fred never made a whole lot of money in all the years he owned it.

In the episode where they were dong their income tax, Calvin (tax preparer) estimate that Sanford made $3,000 form the junk business, and $3,000 from social security.
In todays dollars, that would be $28,000. Since they did not pay mortgage/rent, that would make $2,300 a month as their income. |

Last night they went back to the 1st episode where Lamont where he was saying he wasn't gonna spend the rest of his life working in the junkyard living poor.
Funny thing since Lamont is in his early 30's here. Of course Fred didn't see himself poor either. |

No. Scrap and sheet metal is lucrative, hence the high theft rate of copper.
