Movie What Was The Last Movie You Saw? (Part 16)

Vampire Clan (2002) on DVD

The film is based on the true story of the 1996 double-murder committed by a "vampire clan", lead by 16-year-old Rod Ferrell, in Eustis, Florida.

A teenage girl joined Ferrell's "coven" and told them that the only way her parents would let her leave her home is if they "killed them", so Ferrell and a male accomplice broke into the girl's home one night and brutally murdered her parents.

The film featured early roles of:

Drew Fuller (Charmed, Army Wives)
Alexandra Breckenridge (American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, This Is Us)
Kelly Kruger (Y&R)

The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot '18 (Blu Ray; Decades after ending World War II by assassinating Adolf Hitler in an undercover operation, unsung American hero Calvin Barr is called upon by the government to hunt down the fabled Bigfoot, the carrier of a deadly plague that could destroy humanity.

Sam Elliott, Aidan Turner, Caitlin FitzGerald, Larry Miller, Ron Livingston.

In my top 5 of new films I've seen this year. Sam and Aidan were excellent as versions of the same character at different ages. I liked how they went back and forth between the 1940s and the 1980s.)

Re watch...

Child's Play '19 (Blu Ray; After moving to a new city, young Andy Barclay receives a special present from his mother -- a seemingly innocent Buddi doll that becomes his best friend. When the doll suddenly takes on a life of its own, Andy unites with other neighborhood children to stop the sinister toy from wreaking bloody havoc.

I think I enjoyed it even more on second viewing.)

Gothic Vampires from Hell (2007) on DVD

A female vampire group operate a gothic record label and "sign up" various bands only to feed on them. They have their eyes set on the lead singer of Gothic Vampires from Hell as their new master.

Not bad for an independent film featuring a ton of no-names. It has its flaws with the obvious fake blood and poor special FX, but the film shined w/ it's great soundtrack.

Only person I recognized was Mara Marini from her role as porn star Brandi Maxxxx on "Parks and Recreation".

Joker (2019) at Theater

A mentally ill man who works as a clown becomes fed up w/ life and goes on a murder spree against those who've done him wrong.

He unwittingly becomes an inspiration for the downtrodden citizens of Gotham in fighting back against those in power (not him per se, but his Joker make-up since nobody knows who he is.)

Joaquin Phoenix was amazing.

Pet Sematary '19 (Decided to give it a second try. I actually enjoyed it this time around. Still no where near the book or the 1989 version. But I appreciated some of the things this time around- the pet funeral procession with the children wearing masks for one. Also, the ending I think is creepy in an EC Comics way.)

Little Monsters '19 (A washed-up musician teams up with a teacher and a kids show personality to protect young children from a sudden outbreak of zombies.

A fun, funny, and gory zombie movie.)

Default Re watches...

Had the day off, between grinding leaves in the cold weather I had myself a Halloween-cheezothon...

Hack-O-Lantern '88 (A kindly old grandfather is actually the leader of a murderous satanic cult which sacrifices its victims on Halloween. )

Hollow Gate '88 (At a Halloween party, a young boy is almost killed by his drunken, alcoholic father. Ten years afterward, the boy goes on a murder spree.)

HauntedWeen '91 (Twenty years ago a deadly accident forced Eddie Burber from his home. Since Eddie was younger he wanted to be part of the family business "The Burber Haunted House." A note is placed on the local Fraternity giving permission to use the old house as a fund-raiser. While the students prepare the house, they soon are hunted down and placed in the Haunted House for amusement. One thing is for sure. Nobody knows it really happening - People are dying, and people are laughing.)

The Toy (1982) on DVD

An unemployed journalist takes a cleaning job at a rich businessman's department store and winds up "being purchased" by his boss' young son to play with.

While it had its moments, it wasn't one of Richard Pryor or Jackie Gleason's best.

It's an American remake of the 1976 French film Le Jouet.

Shazam! '19 (We all have a superhero inside of us -- it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In 14-year-old Billy Batson's case, all he needs to do is shout out one word to transform into the adult superhero Shazam. Still a kid at heart, Shazam revels in the new version of himself by doing what any other teen would do -- have fun while testing out his newfound powers. But he'll need to master them quickly before the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana can get his hands on Shazam's magical abilities.)
