Wednesday is my Green Acres day, today's episode was 4.13 "Birthday Gift". What was unusual about it was there was a talking horse in it supposedly Lisa's birthday gift. This talking horse not only looked like Mr. Ed but the voice of the horse was that of Jimmy Stewart!

Or at least an excellent imitation.

There were a lot of in Mr. Ed TV show jokes, this horse was supposed to be the star of Mr. Ed and he complained about the producer and the network cancelling him. He (the horse, that is) called the show Mr. Fred, guess they didn't want to be sued. Interestingly both Mr. Ed and Green Acres were both "Filmways Presentations".

If this was the real Mr. Ed in the show it was really great to see Mr. Ed in living color!! Now, question of the decade is, Was this the real Mr. Ed?

By the way, if it was, I wish they had gotten Rocky Lane to once again do the voice for the horse, as good as Jimmy was it would have really have been wonderful to hear Rocky Lane's Mr. Ed voice again.

What a strange coincidence ! On METV today they were advertising upcoming celebrity guests on their shows . On Thursday they are showing the "Mr. Fred" ep. on Green Acres !

They say the horse is voiced by Rich Little (Good impressionist , sounds a lot like Jimmy Stewart !

And they briefly showed Mr. Fred and from what I remember from seeing this ep. before he is too dark to be Mr. Ed. Mr. Ed being a Palomino, which are blonde colored horses!

But than I just found these two pictures and they really do look alike!

Maybe Mr. Ed was darker than I thought??

That is a coinky-dinky. I watch the DVDs so I don't know where Me TV is in their showings, I don't rely on TV broadcasts to watch my favorites, if I did I'd be constantly frustrated as they are always taking them off. In my world I watch only DVDs in episode guide order and only once a week do I watch a particular series. I watch many different classic TV series' every week but only one episode of a particular series once a week.

Yes, I thought the Green Acres horse MIGHT have been a little darker than Mr. Ed BUT Mr. Ed being b/w it's really impossible to be certain his exact coloring, I still say it may very well have been the original Mr. Ed. Like the Lassie's you can tell one from the other by the white markings on their face above their nose. Are the marking on the Green Acres horse and the Mr. Ed horse the same? If so it must be the original Mr. Ed. The pictures you kindly provided do offer a good clue that both of these horses do have the same coloring as far as their bodies are concerned. But color in photographs can also be off, either dark in one picture or light in another not to mention color fades or color changes that happen to photos over the years. So hard to judge Mr. Ed's shade color just by photos.

The horse in Green Acres served as Ed's stunt double on Mr. Ed. From what I've read this horse appeared at publicity events for Mr. Ed, among other things. They were in fact both palominos.

AH, so maybe the Green Acres horse really was Mr. Fred, Mr. Ed's alias double.
