I thought Bob and Suzanne Pleshette were a great TV married couple. They balanced each other quite well.
The worse was Carlene Watkins, Bob. They did not look compatible and was way too young for Bob Newhart. Amazing how each of TV wives got younger and more glamorous by the series. |

I've liked Carlene Watkins in other series, but she was not a good fit as Bob's wife. And when I heard she was cast as Bob's wife, with Cynthia Stevenson as his daughter, I was sure she would be the stepmother, not the actual mother. She's about 10 years older than Stevenson in real life. But sure enough, she was supposed to be the mother of Stevenson's character. Really silly.

I like the wife in the show where he owned what I think was a bed and breakfast. I can't quite remember because I was so young when it was on and I haven't seen it in a long time.

Suzanne Pleshette was excellent as Bob Newhart's first TV wife but Mary Frann and Newhart just didn't mix.

I liked all of Bob's wives, but I have to put Suzanne Pleshette up top. She had a sly devilish part to her that played well off Newhart's boy next door character.
Did he have a wife in "George and Leo"? I remember an annoying son. |
