Default Mindy's Sudden Romantic Feelings For Mork at the end of season 3

I haven't watched seasons two or three in several years, if not decades, but from watching it at the time, Mindy's confession at the end of season three that she was in love with Mork seemed to come out of nowhere as I took it back then.

I always felt that they had almost a brother/sister thing going on, but with a flirtatious element. I know that they loved and cared for each other a great deal, but I never thought there was any romantic element there personally.

It just seemed to me that they were so desperate to try and revive the plummeting ratings that they contrived this love story and had them marry in season 4.

What do you guys and gals think...?

I didn't watch this show much until many years after it originally aired and I remember thinking that Mindy's romantic feelings for Mork seemed very sudden.

It's a known fact that the ratings were dropping and they must've figured that a sudden romance and marriage would goose the ratings up. It didn't.

And having them give birth to a fully grown "infant" son just made things worse IMO.

They had a sibling vibe - I agree. The romantic feelings and marriage were weird. It reminds me of when people insist that Jack and Janet should have gotten together at the end of “Three’s Company”. It would have had the same weird vibe.

There were some romantic undertones even during season 1 though...Mork's Mixed Emotions & Mork In Love are two season 1 episodes that spring readily to mind.

The first episode of Season 2 Mork In Wonderland showed how Mork had romantic feelings for Mandy in that alternative universe and the final scene of that episode, corny as this may sound, still moves me to tears.

I know that he was attracted to her, that's for sure.

In watching some of the season 2 episodes now, they had a vibe that was somewhere between platonic and romantic.

When Mork appeared to have spent the night with a woman he'd just met, Mindy was clearly jealous and when Mork was about to marry her, thinking she was pregnant with his child (even though they hadn't had sex), Mindy was there to stop the wedding.

Yeah, there was the occasional kiss and some flirtatiousness, but the writers didn't seem to know what to do with their relationship, and the whole Mindy being head over heels in love with Mork at the end of season three seemed very contrived.
