Default "One for the road"

I was watching the finale last night on my WB affilliate in NYC and a couple of things stuck out for me.

1. Did anyone else notice how stiff and uncomfortable Shelley Long seemed? I know it was six years since she played the character. Diane was supposed to be uncomfortable returning to Cheers. However, throughout the course of the episode, there were spots where Diane should've been good ol' Diane and she never was.

2. Who else cheered when they revealed Reed Manchester(Diane's pretend hubby) was really gay and not married to Diane?

3. Who else was hoping(even praying)that Diane was the person knocking on the door at the last scene?

I agree with all three. I really wish that Sam married Diane at the end.

remember it wasnt the same writers as the Shelley seasons (wait...wasnt it Glen and Les Charles?) maybe not lol...

and that wouldve been cool if it was Diane. unfortunately, it isnt. actually it would b funny, cuz Sam turned her away

I agree completely with two and three and a little for number one. I know Shelley was a little tense but maybe she wasn't completely into Diane because she didn't play her for six years. I;m just being optimistic. I know.

I agree with all three. I've always felt that Shelley was very stiff as Diane in the last episode. She certainly didn't give the same kind of effortless and natural performance that she always gave when she was a regular. I think some of the others were nervous as well -- Rhea Perlman had a couple of lines that were very obviously dubbed after the filming, possibly because she originally made mistakes.

And the finale would have been much better if it was Diane knocking on the door at the end, letting Sam know that she was planning to stick around Boston for a while to give their relationship another shot.

Glen and Les Charles did write the finale, the first episode they had written since "Home is the Sailor" (Kirstie Alley's debut).

In a way I'm glad Sam And Diane didn't get married because they'd have to move to cali and Cheers wouldn't be Cheers with woody gone as concilmen it'll just be carla norm and cliff and cheers would have been drained of it's humor but if sam and diane did get married it would be a good spinoff

The more I think about it, maybe it wasn't so bad the way they ended Cheers. Think about it, if Sam & Diane got married in the finale, the show would've ended happily ever after.

With Cheers ending the way it did, it left the show open for tv movies etc, etc. That's just my opinion.

I agree with you..and sam mentioned about if him and diane got married he'd probably end up killing her and going to jail in one episode...I can imagine them as a great couple one day and a firece couple the next...I wonder if it was better they didn't get married at that time..maybe its better now if they did in a tv movie because maybe they are more mature...
