My ABC 1986 Schedule - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Hey guys back again for another edition of me making unnecessary changes to classic television lineups out of boredom. This time my attention is going towards ABC and their 1986 season lineup. As I was looking through the schedule and did a little research. I've found some shows ABC give up too early on from earlier years and many of their new shows flopped that year. Obviously Cosby and NBC were kicking everyone's asses at that time but I like think my schedule would've fared better against the powerhouse that was the peacock.

This is the original schedule

800pm - Life with Lucy
830pm - The Ellenn Burstyn Show
900pm - Heart of the City
1000pm - Spenser: For Hire

ABC Sunday Night
700pm - The Disney Sunday Movie
900pm - The ABC Sunday Night Movie

ABC Monday Night
800pm - MacGyver
900pm - Monday Night Football

ABC Tuesday Night
800pm - Who's the Boss?
830pm - Growing Pains
900pm - Moonlighting
1000pm - Jack and Mike

ABC Wednesday Night
800pm - Perfect Strangers
830pm - Head of the Class
900pm - Dynasty
1000pm - Hotel

ABC Thursday Night
800pm - Our World
900pm - The Colbys
1000pm - 20/20

ABC Friday Night

800pm - Hawaiian Heat (was canceled in 84 season but liked the potential and style of the show, also counter programming of Golden Girls.)
900pm - Hardcastle & McCormick
1000pm - Spenser: For Hire

700pm - The Disney Sunday Movie
900pm - The ABC Sunday Night Movie

ABC Monday Night
800pm - MacGyver
900pm - Monday Night Football

ABC Tuesday Night
800pm - Who's the Boss?
830pm - Growing Pains

Loved MacGyver and Sledge HAMMER! That definitely should've lasted longer than 2 seasons. Also liked Perfect Strangers.

No wonder Life with Lucy bombed. It was on Saturday night!

The Golden Girls was on Saturday night at the same time, and it was in the top 10. Life With Lucy ranked in the top 20 for its first week. So people found it. Then they left in droves. Because it stunk.

It seems depression over the show's failure may have hastened Lucy's death.

Geez!! Lucille Ball was already the Queen of comedy and the biggest sitcom star in American history! Whether a new show succeeded or failed wouldn't change that.

I'm shocked Lucy may not have realized that.

I stupidly bought the DVD. It's really bad. Even John Ritter couldn't save the 2nd episode (although he tried). I'll watch some more and hope for improvement.
