Default Paying with credit card is KEY!

I requested a ride from LYFT on my Credit Card and they told me that card was no longer going through. It turns out that LYFT charged me $15 on the card that they claimed was no longer going through. WTF? I knew something was wrong when I tried to make a purchase for about $10 and was declined.

I called my automated bank on a Sunday and was told that $15 had been taken put of that Account. I was baffled as I still had $15 in the Account on Friday and on Saturday I had stayed home all day so I hadn't used that card. I was able to speak with a Bank Representative early Sunday morning to find out LYFT had taken out the $15. Out of the card they claimed no longer went through. This needs repeating. I sent LYFT an Email demanding my money back for the ride I never took. I didn't get an answer(But my boss when I asked him for help said that LYFT@Gmail.com was not a real email address, but you would think I'd get an Email back saying recipent doesn't exist like I have gotten when I have sent Emails accidentally to wrong email addresses, but I didn't get an email back like that this time).

I also didn't get an email from LYFT for the $15 ride like I have for all of my legitimate rides. Usually I get a LYFT email saying something like ,"Thanks for riding with LYFT with Jonathan! Your ride was $15!" I didn't get that email. On Monday, my bank representative told me when I complained that that $15 from LYFT was not actually taken out of the Account yet and was on hold and it would take two or three business days for the hold to come back to my account. She basically said my money should be back by Thursday(Today) Today I still hadn't gotten the $15 back, so I called my bank to complain for a Cashback dispute that should have already been in my account already.

They said they granted it and it would be back in my account by tonight. I especially need it since I borrowed money from my boss when I explained that LYFT took an unauthorized charge from my credit card. The chargeback dispute is exactly why it's wise to pay with credit card instead of debit.

I totally agree with you. I’D NEVER have a debit card. You could lose some or all your money on one if it’s stolen and in situations like yours it’s much more of a hassle to get your $ back.

My solution? I use a cash back credit card just like a debit card, and pay it off in full every month.

I do have a debit card but I NEVER let it out my site. Heard all sorts of stories of storekeepers, restaurant waiters, etc who take it behind the scenes to charge for the purchase and some dishonest person steals the number. Also with a debit card one needs a pin # where as a credit card you don't. I do have credit card also but most of the time use a debit or in many instances if I can, use cash. I do agreed you are more sure with a credit card for you paid the bill later, vs debit it is instant. I just find one less step with a debit.

Yes, I hear you about the one less step, but since I always follow the rule that”if I wouldn’t lay down the cash for item” it works out the same for me in the end.
