Default Tony Danza shuts down possibility of a Who's The Boss? reboot

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbi...ss-reboot.html

Quote:
He played Tony Micelli on Who's The Boss? from 1984 until its series finale in April 1992.

And on Monday, Tony Danza revealed he doesn't want to reboot the iconic series because of co-star Katherine Helmond's passing.

The 68-year-old actor said: 'First of all, I've never been a big fan of these reboots. [But] no, can't reboot [Who's The Boss?] because we've got no Katherine Helmond, that's why not. That's it,' he said on Good Day New York via People.

Tony plays Anthony Morton 'Tony' Micelli, a former baseball player from Brooklyn turned live-in housekeeper.

The duo move in to the Bower's home in Fairfield, Connecticut- Angela Bower is head of the household - a divorced advertising executive played by Judith Light, her son Jonathan, is played by Danny Pinatauro.

Angela's mother - Mona Robinson - was played by Katherine Helmond; Katherine died on February 23, 2019 following complications from Alzheimer's disease.

Who's The Boss? aired for eight seasons from September 20, 1984 until April 25, 1992.

Tony added the only reboot he'd ever consider watching is Mad About You; the show is returning for a limited series reboot with its original stars Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt later this year.

The TV star did say he wished Who's The Boss? would be back on air, so that the younger generation could be introduced to the series.

Tony said: 'I wish it was on TV. It would be a good show for kids to see. The other night I was standing in front of the Paley Center on 52nd Street, [and] this woman walks by with these two little kids.'

Adding: 'The kid's about 6 years old, he goes to me, "Are you Tony Micelli?" I go, "How the heck do you know that?"'

Tony then said: 'His mother says he watches it all the time.'

The actor praised his on-screen daughter Alyssa, 46, and revealed they talk frequently.

Tony told the host on Good Day New York: 'This is somebody who wants to leave the world a little better than she found it. One of the things that happens, I think - when you're a kid from - she's from Staten Island, I'm from Brooklyn, garbage man's son - and you get this opportunity, you get this platform, this job, you get this career.'

He continued: 'I feel this tremendous - there must be a reason. I gotta do something good with it. I don't want to just sit around, and I think she feels the same way, that she feels like she should do something.'

Alyssa has previously said in 2015 that she would love to do a Who's The Boss? reboot and would be '100 percent' interested,' according to Page Six.

The actress said: 'It would have to be a really good script, though. I think [Samantha] would have kids and Tony would be a grandfather.

Sounds like we can't expect a reboot anytime soon

Katherine Helmond you can argue, was really the "glue" that held the show together. So any attempt to do Who's the Boss without the Mona character would make the show feel like an "empty shell" of itself.

Plus, why does Alyssa desperately want to do a revamped version of WTB anyway? I don't think shows should by revived (I don't like the term "reboot" because that to me, means that you're going to use an entirely new cast and interpretation) unless it truly as something new and interesting to say. The only thing that I can read into this is that Sam is now a single mom (either she and Hank got divorced in the interim or she's a widow) like Angela on the original series and Tony comes back to help take care of his grandkids.

It would be different if Sam like Angela, hired a complete stranger to be her housekeeper. But even then, a premise like the one on WTB isn't exactly "groundbreaking" or ahead of the curb anymore like it may have been back in 1984.

Sam can't be a widower: a widower is a male widow: a man who has lost his wife.

She could be a widow, but since Tony doesn't want to do one without Katherine Helmond, it sounds like it will not happen.
