All right, most of us here are Americans. Most of us love our Yankees(ack poo!) and our Lakers(ack poo too!), even our Red Wings. Oh, but there is something else to cheer about.
And that is our Men's soccer team.
Finally, the world's most popular sport is getting recognition here for making it to the World Cup quarter finals. (Which is a major deal, since we've haven't gotten that far in 72 years).

And we kicked Mexico's tails yesterday 2-0 in a elimination Round of 16 match. Ahhh, bliss.

You know, I've probably have only watched 4 soccer games in my life. 2 of which during this tournament. And you know what?
I have NO idea why soccer isn't popular here. I mean, it dominates American youth.
Yet, people still watch Nascar. It's a true wonder why people watch Nascar.

So maybe the true meaning of this post is why Americans watch Nascar. I like to hear other people's thoughts on this really pointless post.

USA, USA, USA! Beat Germany on Friday!

Soccer will never be one of the big 4 sports here, but I can see it getting more popular. If we can continue to develop our own players and keep them in our own MLS league that will go a long way..

If anyone's gonna answer this, I guess it'll be me. I LOVE NASCAR!! Why? It's exciting. There's a lot of good competition, good battles on the track, and yes, there is A LOT of strategy involved (two tires or four, when to get gas, etc.)

I've been a car freak ever since I was born (thanks dad!), so I guess that's another reason. But one of the big reasons...the drivers. Most are good role models. They live a good clean life, have good marriages, are good dads, etc. I wouldn't mind my children (if I had any) watching these guys. Most don't do drugs, get arrested for various different things, and so on. It's just fun.

I know it has this "southern" reputation, but I am a born and bread northerner, and I can say that many of the new drivers do not have that hick mentality.

OH...I just thought of another reason NASCAR is so popular. The American culture is one born and raised around their cars. Cars are a huge status symbol in this country. Some people take better care of their cars than they do themselves. In many countries, poor people don't have cars, but they do here. There are 3 people in my family, and at one point we had 5 cars. AMERICA LOVES CARS! And we love our cars to go fast. Plus, NASCAR cars are stock cars, so they look like something you or I could drive (actually I do).

Me... I LOVE SOCCER! I have been playing since i was 6! My dad being born in England LOVES SOCCER!
I always watch it with him since he was my coach!
I LOVE IT AND HOPE SOMEDAY IT BECOMES AS POPULARS AS IN Europe!!!

Oh, I know what you mean. My grandpa was and still is drag car racer. He loves racing. Heck, when we were having this huge family get together during game 7 of the Kings/Lakers series, he went into the other room to watch racing! (He grew up in Oklahoma, mind you).
Yes, it used to be a lot of fun going out to his races all across the state, and yeah, nice cars are fun to look at. But man, if I had to choose between WATCHING racing or a good soccer match, I'd choose the latter.
But I totally understand the stragety aspect of Nascar. And I respect it. It's sort of like watching a guy consistently hit a nice fairway drive on a golf course.
Do you know how hard it is to hit a golf ball halfway decent? It's harder than I thought it would be.

I don't know, maybe within the next ten years, it'll be sort of at hockey popularity level. I mean, it's the most popular participated sport among America's youth. Give it ten, fifteen years, maybe it'll get somewhere. Especially if the US continue to have good showings at future World Cups.

I'm quite surpriced that you are taking that attitude. In the World Cup 98, I was cheering on Scotland even though I'm English. In this world cup, both my parents are Scottish and they are cheering on England.
I've also been supporting Ireland in this World Cup. So why are you against England to do well, surely since you are "British" you should want them to do well?

I'll tell you why I'm not cheering on England. Because they won the word cup over 35 years ago and they are still going on and on about it. If they ever won again we'd never hear the end of it. I have nothing against the English as people, but when it comes to football they are just smug and arrogant and I hate that!
That's cool that you were rooting for Scotland in '98. But I was in England on holiday during World Cup '98 and I was shouted at in the street by England supporters just cos I was wearing my Scotland shirt. That kind of attitude is all too common among England football supporters and I don't want anything to do with 'em!

I do agree with you. I'm fed up with hearing about the World Cup 66, it's like they're trying to say "we achieved something 36 years ago so it's ok if we fail at everything now. "
A lot of England supporters are idiots too, booing at other teams National Anthems etc...

Both England and USA out today, each only loosing by a goal.
