I loved the 90s! They were rad! Great music! Great movies! And great tv! As great as it was, there were shows that weren't great. Maybe it's because of the acting, direction and plot devices that made the shows age badly.and even society has changed that make the show age worse. As I did with 70s and 80s, I used to watch these shows but now after giving them a second look, they are are cringeworthy and unwatchable. So as I said before, please be nice. I'll respect your opinion. This is just my opinion. Okay? Cool. Here is my list of 90s sitcoms that haven't age well.
12. Step by Step: This one had Suzanne Sommers and Patrick Duffy playing parents of a mix family. This was done a million times since The Brady Bunch. It also had a nephew who always tried to hit on one of the daughters. This was creepy and it was done on Family Matters with Urkel. This was a copy of that and it was forgotten. 11. Sister, Sister: Twin girls who were separated at birth finally meet. It was done before on other shows and movies 10. Blossom: Mayik ( I don't know her last name) got her big start. The fantasy parts in the show just don't work and she did a lot better in The Big Bang theory. 9. The Nanny: Fran Dreschner is gorgeous but only in supporting roles. Rosanne was great because it was grounded. This one had the worst vaudeville slapstick and the British actors deserved better. I wouldn't want this nanny watching my kids. 8. Saved By The Bell: The characters had no depth especially Screech. Even when they handle serious subjects, they fail. Friday Night Lights and Buffy were much better. I'm saving myself from this show and by a bell. 7. Martin: Martin Lawrence was a black Adam Sandler. He was really grating. Seeing him dressed as a woman was very unfunny. Where is he now? I don't care because I can live without him. 6. Sabrina the teenage witch: Melissa Joan Hart was beautiful and charming in the lead. But now I'll take the reboot and even the Harry Potter movies which take magic even further. I'll still take a look now and then even though she did cast a spell on me. 5. The Fresh Prince of Bel Air: Will Smith got his big break on this one. What made it age badly is breaking the fourth wall and Wills' acting. Even though it had gotten better over time, it was his breakout role in Six degrees of Separation that really shot him to stardom. I'll watch Will in the movies and leave this one alone. 4. Family Matters: This became the Urlkle show. This was suppose to be about a family but instead, we got a stereotypical nerd who stole the show. The stories got ridiculous and unreal. Even Urkel stayed the same thru out the entire run. The other kids grew up but he didn't. Here's what matters, I'm staying away from this one. 3. Caroline in the City: Very bland. 2. Friends: The most overrated, whitest show ever. I'm not racist but for a show set in New York, you should see people of all ethnicities and not just one race. Also, it didn't treat gays, lesbians and transgenders well. This also include the sexism on all 3 cast members. I wouldn't want to be friends with any of them. 1. Seinfeld: Okay. This maybe the most popular sitcom but it has flaws. These people you don't want to hang out with and so many horrible things they did made me cover my eyes or gasp in horror. The ending was a complete letdown. They deserve to rot in jail. Well there you have. Do you agree or disagree? And as always be nice. I'll respect your opinion. Later. |

A lot of the reasons you say for these shows not aging well have nothing to do with one era or generation versus another, you mainly have general criticisms of the shows that would have been just as easy to point out then versus now. Post is more about shows from the 90s you dislike than about why they haven't aged well?

I agree with DSfan. The only criticism that you gave that has anything to do with aging is your commentary on how Friends completely neglected diversity in their show. The rest are just an attack on the characters or “oh, it’s been done before, it MUST be terrible.” Commentary is very shallow and over generalized to be a consensus on the overall quality and timelessness of these shows.

I loved many shows on your list back in the day, and I have watched "The Nanny" as late as during this year. So I don't buy most of your criticism.
And as for "Friends" not being an ethnically diverse show, I believe that Ross and Monica were Jewish? So that is at least something… |

There is just one more I forgot.
Home Improvement: Tim Allen is funny but looking at this show now, it looks bad now. Tim grunting like a caveman and him always destroying things on his show makes men look bad. I know we are suppose to laugh at stereotypes of men and women but this makes it worse. We have seen the dumb husband and the smart wife a million times and it time for it to die. Last Man Standing is better because Tims' character on that show is smarter and a little more grounded. Also, he has daughters not sons who do more. I'll watch that over this. |

That's all I'm going to do. I'm not going to bother the 2000 and 2010 sitcoms because there are so many I haven't seen and there are a few I enjoy. I'm glad that I did the other 3 and got your opinions. Thanks guys. Later.
