Looks like the show was starting to take a dip in the ratings because in season 2 if went from 3 to 25 and then the next season why he was still on the show it wasn't even in the top 30. So I dont think it would had a long run since it aired after Sanford and Son and could not hold that audience

You're right. It probably would have only had four maybe five seasons total. But I imagine it would have been more successful in reruns (and possibly on DVD) because it wouldn't have the tragic element of Prinze's death attached to it.

So it looks like it was the timeslot that lead to success in season 1
