I noticed that George Harrison's song My Sweet Lord uses the exact same melody from The Chiffons hit He's So Fine and I would like to know the exact story about why this came about? The chorus copies He's So Fine with George's lyrics instead of the do-lang do-lang do-lang chorus that He's So Fine has. Did the writer of the song He's So Fine and The Chiffons ever sue George Harrison for stealing the melody of the song to create My Sweet Lord?

George Harrison was in fact found guilty of plagiarizing the 1963 hit "He's So Fine" by The Chiffons in a court in 1976, though it was determined that he only subconsciously did so, not intentionally trying to copy it.

I discovered that The Chiffons also did a cover of My Sweet Lord and so it makes me think that The Chiffons covered this song after George Harrison sang it to avoid The Chiffons from accusing George Harrison of copying the melody of He's So Fine. So the lawsuit was true after all but I still wonder if George Harrison won it and got a sum of money from it?

No. Harrison had to pay almost 1.6 million dollars to the copyright owner, Harrison never saw any money from the song. It was produced by Phil Spector, btw.

I think the lawsuit was a joke and the verdict a crock of ****. They songs may have been somewhat similar but to think that George Harrison of all people needed to steal someone else's song is insane.
