Default Moral question? :/

I bought someone an unexpected gift card and I sent him the gift card information online but he hasn't used it yet in over a month. I even offered to give it to him hand to hand since I still have the physical gift card in my possession and he keeps making excuses as to why he doesn't just want to get it hand to hand and he straight up hasn't answered my latest question if he even wants it in the first place. Am I well into my rights to just use the gift card on myself then since he seems to be ignoring it and making excuses to not get it hand to hand? :/

What was the gift card for? "Once you give a gift it is theirs to do with as they wish."

It is for a $50 Macy's gift card. There's a LONG story on why I would give a GUY a Macy's gift card, . He just sent me a message saying that I could keep it and added that he appreciated the thought.

Is this a moral or a practical issue? Did you have an ulterior motive in proffering the gift card? Otherwise I'm inclined to agree with Alan Brady's Hair.

Try to remember that the other person has a life and there could be many reasons he hasn't used it. It's one thing if they haven't used it after a year, but it's only been a month. You have it on your mind because you gave it to him so that's all you see. He may have his mind on other things. His life doesn't stop because you gave him a gift card. He may not find anything he wants or he may be saving it for something. Buying something he doesn't want just because you want him to use it defeats the purpose. You gave it as a gift, not in a search for gratitude.

Well, a gift card is like any other gift, you give it in hopes the person likes it and will use it! But once you do give it , than it is theirs to do what they wish! If they don't want to use it, or regift it or cash it in there really isn't anything we can do at that point ,it is theirs to do what they want!

I never checked to see if a gift card I gave had been used! I just always get the GC from stores or restaurants I know the person likes and frequents ! I myself have regifted gift cards because it was a place I would never shop at! I also cashed in a restaurant gift card once cause it was sent to me in a Christmas card from back east. The person didn't realize there wasn't that restaurant at all close to me. I didn't get the full cash amount, the pay out is less than the value of the card though!

It's a LONG LONG LONG story why I gave a GUY a Macy's Gift Card! Let's just say, I bought him that to BURN a Hatchet between us. Not just BURY, BURN the hatchet. This particular Hatchet involved Macy's Gift Cards.
