Are hotels trying to become more hip and modern?

I'm noticed that hotels are updating themselves to attract the new in style and and trying a whole new look that's modern and hip. Is it to attract a new generation of today's vacationers or are hotels going for colorful designs to get more vacationers to stay or make money? Take for instance when I have stayed in hotels I noticed that hotels are making the rooms like college dorms with IKEA like decor and college dorm style beds and feature kitchenettes just like college dorms and when I see this it makes me think of being on a college campus. When me and Mom stayed in hotels during vacations I remember when hotels used to have pretty decor and had nice rooms. But when I see hotels nowadays I think this new hip decor helps hotels remain in business and attracts a new trend of vacations
