Forgive me if it's in plain sight, but I don't see the option do so either when I like someone's post in any particular thread, or someone is kind enough to answer a question that I asked.

Not doable officially. You can only write something along the lines of “Hey, I like that”, or go the roundabout way and pop in a photo.

Just as well. Only one of the several sites I posted to in the past allowed one to like the same member as many times as they wanted in the same thread, on the same day, sometimes twice in a row for the same post(!), which rendered them all kinda' worthless. Another site would prevent their members from giving someone a second like not only in the same thread, but in any of of their other posts/threads until they've spread a certain number of likes to other members first (exactly how many, I don't know, but a pop-up message would appear), which is the way I'd do it if it were my site.
