Who is your favorite character? I can't decide on one. Mel makes me think of my grandfather who owned a cafe and had a secret sauce (unfortunately he took the secret with him to the grave). Alice is a rare talent musically. I wish I could sing and play piano to her degree. Flo has enough fun for everyone. Vera is one of those people you wonder how they get through life but they have a heart of gold. Belle and Jolene seemed like they were more comic relief. The show didn't really develop them as much as I would have liked. I was happy to see Vera's character develop. It seemed like as time went on she didn't appear as JUST DINGY. The show explored her more than Belle and Jolene. Well, what do you think?

My favorite character is Alice. She was a great role model for single women in the 70s and she is beautiful and has such a wonderful voice.

Total Vera fan, here! I think she was a marvelous character, full of warmth and brilliantly played by Beth Howland. (Perhaps a little too brilliantly. Can we attribute her lack of post-Alice work to typecasting?)
Deb, who is totally amused to find this message board. |

Vera, definitly Vera. She had such a sweet personality but was so naive sometimes it was sad! And who can forget her opening the box of straws!

I like all characters on Alice, but Vera is my favorite, and Flo a close second. Beth is a very talented actress, and I wish she would play in some more TV series; I heard she was in "Chicken Soup for the Soul", but I missed it.
