In 1990 Colgate started using Randy Newman's song Love To See You Smile as a slogan for their commercials to promote their toothpastes and featured a toothpaste smile being added at the end of the commercials. At the time Parenthood was a blockbuster movie in 1989 it's no secret that Colgate asked Randy Newman for permission to use his song in their commercials and what a success it was for Colgate

It's amazing how one song went from becoming a signature song from the 1989 hit Parenthood to becoming a commercial hit for Colgate. I think when I Love To See You Smile became a hit I think Colgate approached Randy Newman and asked him if the song could be used as Colgate's new slogan and be in the commercials too. I think the success paid off very well because it sure helped Colgate sell a lot of toothpaste. I found another version of this commercial with Randy Newman himself singing I Love To See You Smile and it is so wonderful. And i'm surprised that Randy is still singing wonderful songs and he should've done more commercials like these

Hi, Bestie! Yes, Colgate was very smart to use that song. Like when Kodak used the Paul Anka song "Times Of Your Life'. What do you think?
