Ithaca, NY (WHCU) – Former longtime host of the G.E. College Bowl on NBC-TV, Ithaca College media lecturer, WHCU announcer and Navy veteran Robert Earle has died.
He passed away Wednesday at Ithaca Hospicare. He was 93. Earle was the second host of the TV show, succeeding the late Allen Ludden, who left the show in 1962 to host Password. Earle hosted College Bowl during its entire NBC run, from 1962 to 1970. Before this part of his media career, in the early 1950s, Earle was an announcer and news anchor for Utica television station WKTV. After he left the station, he was replaced at the anchor desk by Dick Clark, at the time another up-and-coming television personality, according to Wikipedia. He’s survived by his wife Marion. They were married 71 years. |

I remember Robert Earle as the "Man With the Questions" on the GE College Bowl. He replaced Allen Ludden in 1962 and got the job in an unusual way. He edited himself into a show hosted by Ludden when he was working for GE and formerly was a professor at Ithaca College. College\. He was very bright, warm and closely resembled Ludden.
Though GE College Bowl was his only network game show, he hosted the pilot for the game show King of the Hill, it wasn't picked up for a series. Earle also did the voiceover for numerous commercials but he will always be remembered as "The Man With the Questions." |

Remember watching GE College Bowl late Sunday afternoons right after Mutual Of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. IMO quite a combo.
