Default Season 3 now on DVD

Season 3 has finally come to DVD. CBS has released both volumes as MOD releases on Amazon.

I hope this means they will finally release the rest of them even if they are MOD. Maybe they will also finish Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, and Happy Days this way as well.

Wow! Never thought this day would come. Pretty pricey at $35 a volume though. Hopefully that means they're uncut.

I wonder if these season 3 releases have the same music replacement issues that plagued the DVD's of seasons 1 and 2.

For $70, it'd better not.

When the half season releases of seasons 1 and 2 first came out, the original retail price was about $40 each.

OK, maybe, but they're well under $10 per volume now. The original retail price almost never sticks unless it's MOD. For this, if it will drop, it will only be a few dollars. Hopefully it's unedited and remastered and not the masters they've provided to MeTV.

The episodes are probably complete but I imagine there are music replacements like those in the season 1 and 2 sets.

This is my holy grail show on DVD. It always has been. The music replacements bother me, however, I'm still willing to buy this even with the replacements. But I agree, at these prices, it really should be unedited, though that's not always how things work as we all know.

Anyways, thanks - thebigcookie - for letting me know about this release!

I ordered both and they have shipped already. I will post more info and some screen caps once I get them.

The season 3 episode to check will be Evening With A Star (3-36). This is the episode where Bill Frawley sings "Carolina In The Morning." It's always cut out on MeTV. With DVDs this expensive they should have bought the rights.

I agree with Svenfan: with DVDs this pricey, they better not have cut the music (but they probably did).

Music shouldn't be as much of an issue when/if they get into the color seasons. Eventually Frank DeVol did all the music for the show, and they didn't license music from the Capitol library. Where they might run into trouble is any music they play on their family jam sessions, Katie singing Downtown, etc.

Also for these prices, I agree they better remaster the films. They did for the first two seasons and they did a bang-up job.

I also wonder why this show in particular is issued in parts, like hour shows are. I can't think of any other sitcoms released that way.

I know. The show has 12 seasons and with them releasing them in half seasons, that'll be 24 DVD box sets on your shelf. I have the same complaint with Gunsmoke. I'll have an entire shelf dedicated to that show once I get every season, haha.

Just because a DVD set is pricey doesn't mean one should expect perfection, especially not from CBS who generally puts higher prices on their DVD's anyway and are notoriously known for music edits. I imagine season 3 of My Three Sons likely has some type of music edits/replacements, there's also a chance that everything was done right this time. Will have to read comments as reports come in. Regarding the higher price, all a person can do is wait for the price to come down or shop around to find the best deal.

Since this 3rd season is a MOD release, maybe they didn't go to the trouble this time to make the music edits/replacements. That's my thinking anyway. Will just have to see comments as reports come in.

I hear the music for Season 3 is intact. I just wonder how the PQ will be considering its MOD and not pressed DVDs. I've bought some from Amazon and the PQ hasn't been that great.
