Default The Lazy Amazon UM Updates

Surely this annoys everyone on here too. Obviously i'm referring to the sometimes brief updates they give for solved or even unsolved segments. Sometimes just stating "this person served 6 years and has been released".

At least I would have liked them to have the scrolling text with the update and more information. I also don't understand why dates are not included? are they scared someone will find out how old some of these segments are?

One of the worst was Patrica Carlton, great she was found after 30 or so years but there was little more information other than that...

I wasn't too pleased with how they handled the Stephen Marfeo update back in 1999 I think it was. It was just text on a screen. I've always felt that case deserved a better update with at least a RS voiceover.

I always thought it was weird that they didn’t use the Lifetime exclusive updates, many of which Stack narrated on camera, or at least did a voiceover for. Maybe they couldn’t get the rights since these were made for Lifetime.

There was surprisingly very little information when she was finally located in 2005 and next to nothing since. You'd think a reunion after 30+ years would have had MAJOR publicity, maybe even a write up in People Magazine. But no.
It may be that the family wanted privacy, but that's just a guess.

I agree with your overall point but there wasn't much Amazon had to work with in regards to the update on this case.

I don't mind the text only updates. Stack passed away, and another person to do a voice over instead of text just seems futile.

I 100% agree with this.

Like dynoguy said, I bet the family asked for privacy in many of these cases with no video or extra details.

What's really odd to me is that a few of the updates include a suspect name and picture but then say it couldn't/didn't go to trial. That person may well be guilty, but I'd be pissed if my picture was on there without a conviction.

The footlocker case (aka Gabby's bones) update just says that DNA confirmed the skeleton is Joseph Mulvaney and his killer has not been caught. I wonder why they didn't go into more detail about who really killed him?

The Unsolved Website said this:

“On 10-19-17 a DNA sample was obtained from an adult female from Iowa who had relayed that her father had been shot in the head by her uncle some time in 1960 and then was placed in a trunk prior to being burried in Iowa. It was then stated that the uncle then dug the trunk back up and transported it to Wyoming where the uncle was working. The uncle then left the trunk behind. The uncle then moved to Mississippi where he later committed suicide. The Wyoming State Crime Lab was able to determine that the female who had submitted the DNA sample was indeed a 99.99% match to the bones that had been collected. The bones have now been identified as being Joseph Mulvaney who was born in 1923. Joseph will now be able to get a proper burial and the Mulvaney family can rest easy knowing that their family member has been found."

So the Amazon update is slow to update it.

It's strange though sometimes they play the old update footage like they did with say Angelo Desderi but sometimes they just cut it out and put the text in.

So wait... is the uncle who committed suicide actually Gabby? It sure sounds like it.

There are conflicting reports as to whether or not the woman who came forward is the daughter or grand-daughter of the bones in the footlocker. It seems that "Gabby" was really the step-son of Joseph Mulvaney, and yes, "Gabby" killed Joseph and then years later killed himself.

I think FilmRise was airing on the side of caution considering all of these are legal matters. It's one thing for someone connected to a case to come here and post what they "know" happened or write up a more detailed synopsis on the UM fan-run Wiki, it's another for the production company to do so and put them out on global streaming (and potentially television) platforms as fact. People could sue if they felt things were misrepresented, details left out, they were painted in an unfair light, etc. So they stuck to the hardcore facts that no one could dispute.

At the same time, they also went to the effort to show the booking photos for a lot of these quicky "They served X and are out" updates that we never really saw anywhere before. I think in the end they did a good job.

I thought was weird in the Mickey Thompson update the voiceover was done shortly before Stack died but the trigger men got the text update

I've considered this as well JS. I've also wondered exactly who retained the physical copies of the Lifetime exclusive content? Did C&M even have that footage in their archives or would've it been something that was produced for Lifetime, shipped off to them and perhaps all these years later is now either lost to time or discarded?

Oddly enough some of the Lifetime syndications contained footage not available on the original broadcasts. I know that the Lifetime version of the Doreen Picard case had different interviews when compared to the original broadcast. I also think there are different versions of the Dave Bocks and Alex Cooper segments as well both featuring different inserts.

This makes sense to me. Sometimes DVD/VHS bonus features get lost to time because they're often made by the company releasing the product (which may not be the same company releasing it again 10, 20 years later).
