S09 of CYE may have been the funniest, so far; Episode SPOILERS below

I saw S09 of CYE back when it aired in Fall 2017, and felt it was quite possibly the funniest season of the series - so far. Though each season is great without one weak episode, this season was particularly hilarious. Here is my review of the season, which I'm going to break up into several posts:

S9, EP 1 of Curb was hysterical. LD not only crosses the line with his humor, he destroys the line - LOL.

Some highlights:

Larry paying $150 for a crappy hair cut, when he barely has any hair. He should just start shaving his head himself for free - LOL

-Larry in disguise in the coffee shop (with a ridiculous wig & sunglasses) in order to escape the wrath of an pi$$ed-off woman; it was great to see him crawling away from her when she came into the shop angrily looking for "baldy". This was one of many woman that Larry has enraged over the course of the series - LOL.

-Larry arguing with Richard Lewis about a text he sent to Richard re: his dead parakeet. When LD talked about a toucan, etc. RL's line "I don't live in a Cuban dance hall!" was classic - LOL. I also liked the "I'm still alive" line

-As with previous episodes, I like how everything came together at the end when Susie crept up to LD in the shower, then yelled, "Foisted, you $#%#%#%##" before punching him out - fantastic!

S09, E02:

Like Seinfeld & previous Curb seasons, with this season LD continues to take everyday non-events that people run into & makes them the focal point(s) of episodes, i.e.:

-People fighting over opening a pickle jar. Anyone who likes pickles will admit that opening the jar can be tough (the first time), and it is true that people will try to help if they see others struggling with opening any jar.

- The tongs available for cookies/any kind of food in a public place. It was funny how the hotel employee (the first time Larry messed with the cookies) asked someone to "remove" the cookies that were close to the ones LD had touched.

- Larry's calling out the hotel employee & stating that the cookies were store-bought Pepperidge Farm, and not made by the hotel's own "pastry chef" (or whatever the employee stated). I've run into this type of B.S. before, so can relate - LOL.

- Larry's alter-ego "Buck Dancer" with the horrible wig & mustache looked ridiculous. LD is actually drawing more attention to himself with his stupid disguise than he would if he just wore a hat & dark glasses, which was obviously the whole point - LOL.

-Going along with this, Marty Funkhouser's awful rug is hilarious, and is intentionally distracting when watching his scenes. I'm not a hater, since I'm a middle-aged bald guy myself - but, I shave my head & eschew rugs.

-It was great how Funkhouser felt "compelled" to admit to LD that he had called up Cheryl (LD's ex-wife) & initially made it sound like it was a "harmless" call to get advice about "shopping", and then as he continued talking expanded what went on between them, i.e. "coffee", "taking walks in the park", "dinner", etc. - it seemed "unsaid" that things may have even gone farther than that - LOL.

-It was also quite funny to see Mary S. turn down LD (by "honestly" stating that he wasn't her physical "type"), and then later seeing her dating a guy that looked identical to LD - ha ha.

Later episodes:

-The episode where Larry dated the mailwoman was great. The scene when the mail-woman put candy in the popcorn at the movie theater was funny, and I wonder if this will start a new "trend" out there - LOL.

The sequence when Larry commented on the new baby looking somewhat Asian - which understandably offended the father - was spot-on! It was great how it was "revealed" at the end that the baby was fathered by a guy the wife was having an affair with - LOL. There have been several times in the past when I've noticed couples (that I've personally known) have kids where the mother has definitely been the actual mother, but the father has definitely NOT been the father. I.e., they're together throughout the woman's pregnancy & she has a child that is obviously not fathered by the husband. It's extremely evident that in these cases the woman had an affair - and the husband is either too clueless to notice, or he doesn't want to admit this (probably the latter). Sad. But, it made for a great Curb episode!

Great ending sequence, when the angry mail-woman hit Larry in the head with the mail, then Leon said, "Thank you for your service" while picking up the package - LMFAO!

Going along with this, as a fan of physical media I appreciated the fact that Leon still bought CD's/DVD's. Though I stream occasionally, I do obviously collect physical media to some extent - so it was nice to see this featured on a current TV show.

The episode with the scene in the airplane. Again, very relatable situation:

-Having to sit next to an entitled P.O.S while on a long flight is horrible. Thankfully, I haven't ever been asked by anyone to switch seats because of an alleged "medical condition", but if it ever happens I'll know what to do - i.e., I won't switch seats, no matter how much they ask What makes all of this that much worse is that in the past 8-10 years the seat space in coach flights has decreased, so it's extremely uncomfortable to sit in these seats anyway, even if you're thin. One of the many reasons I hate flying!

- It was great when LD responded to the "Wash me" on his dirty car with another written message (instead of cleaning it, like most people would) - ha ha.

-It was funny how LD unintentionally/intentionally "ruined" the relationships that Lewis & Funkhouser had. Going along with this, the dinner table scene where Susie stated that she could see why Jeff (her husband) was the only one that was married was intentionally ironic & hilarious! Obviously, Jeff alternately both fears & hates Susie, as evidenced by his actions & his affairs. You can tell he hates being married, but just barely tolerates her - probably because he knows that he'll get financially screwed in a divorce.

The Uber driver episode:

-The idea of Larry asking his Uber driver to "rate" him was so awkward; it was hilarious how the driver deemed Larry a "2" (at best) and rated himself a "3" - LOL.

-It was also funny how Larry pretended to have an "illness" so he could "excuse" his behavior to the mechanic. This reminded me of an earlier episode where Larry pretended to be handicapped so he wouldn't have to talk to someone in an office next to him. Though this definitely "crosses the line" of good taste, it's not presented as malicious or hurtful - just for laughs.

The last S09 episode was great, especially:

-Funkhouser being extremely & sarcastically apologetic for getting to a gathering late, much more than necessary. This was obviously a reaction to Larry calling him out on not being sorry enough on a past occasion - LOL.

-The young, attractive interpreter for the deaf, who was naturally "blessed", and how, as a result, guys couldn't keep their eyes off her - this is so true!

- Larry hiring a "stand-in" to give his speech at Sammie's wedding reception, even though Susie had already given him crap because he wasn't sure if he would show up - fantastic!

-F. Murray Abraham being an "outfit tracker", and LD later using this as a plot-point in the "F." play - LOL

Note that FMA definitely deserves more recognition & roles than he's gotten over the years. He's a very underrated actor, and should be known for much more than his iconic role as Salieri in Amadeus (1984). Yes, that was a great movie, but he also co-starred w/Tom Selleck in the excellent crime/jail drama An Innocent Man (1989), as well as being in films like Scarface (1983), Mighty Aphrodite (1994), etc.
