LAPD Makes Arrest in 1985 Hollywood Cold Case Murder of TV Director
by Ryan Parker May 9, 2019 Federal and local authorities on Thursday arrested a man they believe brutally killed TV producer Barry Crane back in 1985, Los Angeles police confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. Edwin Hiatt, now 52, was taken into custody in North Carolina by the FBI Fugitive Task Force after detectives with LAPD said they identified him as Crane's killer through DNA evidence. The 57-year-old Crane, a well-known director and producer of such TV shows as "The Incredible Hulk", "Dallas" and "Wonder Woman", was found wrapped in bedding on the garage floor of his North Hollywood home in July 1985. He had been bludgeoned and strangled. His car was also stolen. On Thursday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office charged Hiatt with one count of murder, police told THR. Shortly after he was arrested, Hiatt was interviewed on the spot by a North Carolina TV news station. He told the reporter that he had no memory of the slaying and that he was "big into drugs" back then. Asked if he killed Crane, Hiatt responded: "It's possible. Anything's possible." Police told THR Hiatt will be extradited to Los Angeles in a matter of days. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/ne...-crane-1209446 |
