Some clues for the first one:
Early 70's. Kids fare. Maybe cereal, pop tarts or that ilk.. Possibly even Wisk detergent? On an old audio tape I had taken from tv, this ad ran right after the Yabba Dabba Dew fruit drink commercial, so it would be circa 1974-75. Here's what happens: A crowd cheers. We hear a loud horse's gallop and an announcer: [some audio missing] "If she can clear all those rings in 10 seconds flat. 5.. 6.. She's done it!" An older-sounding, somewhat hoarse (Horse? Heh!) country bumpkin guy yells, "Nice goin', Kim!" ..And the audio cuts out! From long ago, I recall that my brother and sisters got some great kick out of mocking that "Nice goin', Kim!" bit, but I've drawn an annoying blank as to it's origin. I've seen 500 gajillion vintage commercials in the last few years but this one remains a little mystery. It seems as elusive as the Peanutty Koogle with the Koo-Koo-Koogly Eyes commercial! Also, what was the PSA where the kids kidnapped their dad in the RV and made him go on vacation and spend time with them? It was an LDS spot, I think, probably ran mostly during after school specials, and seemed like it was well over 2 minutes long. Shortened versions aired right around 1980. And, finally, a horse laugh? (Horses, again!) Maybe a dog food commercial from late 60's, when horse meat was no longer apropos for dog food? At the end, the announcer would ask, "What brand will you buy, next time?" and the horse would do the whinny/horse laugh (implying that horse meat products were a joke!). Was that Alpo? Any of this ring a bell? Anyone else got any little mysteries we could try to track down? |

I'm pretty sure I've seen the first one you mention and I think it's a cereal commercial, possibly Cheerios.

Thanks for the response!
Cheerios sounds apropos with the whole "rings" tie-in. Might have been a Saturday am showing, too, as a brief bit of the Monkees theme came soon after. Wouldn't think it was one of the Cheerios Kid spots, as it sounded more produced, like a live-action thing. |
