I have seen older threads getting bumped up, and it's getting annoying. Gamespot forums usually have locked their old threads up whenever someone tries to reply to a very old thread. Why not Sitcoms Online?

There is no rule against bumping old threads here except on certain boards (depends on the moderator), nor is one needed. I don't mind seeing past discussions being revived. Threads generally get locked after they reach 1000 posts, but before that can still be posted on.

I also don't see a problem. Why do we need a bunch of threads about the same thing?

It doesn't bother me. If it's of interest to me, I'll reply to it no matter when it was first posted.

There's really no reason to ban bumping. I've said this before but most topics don't have an expiration date so it wouldn't make sense to discriminate based on age.

The only bumping I'd like to see stopped is purposely bumping in Trading Post, using the post "bump", for no other reason than to bring the thread back to the top.

Actually, that seems the most useful to me. Bumping up an old thread to see if someone new here happens to have what you're still looking for.

Gamespot moderators seem to be against "necro-ing" threads for a while: https://www.gamespot.com/forums/game...2015-31188094/

Yea alot of people make a big deal about it and its silly...........
I dont see a problem -- Its better than having many threads all over the bases with the same subject right? ![]() I have found alot of gold on different sites,it would be a shame not to be able to reply to it just cause of a date.... Look at this thread buddy http://discussions.virtualdr.com/showthread.php?t=3207 There was NO REPLIES on it and I checked the link and it is still valid so I replied.... VERY USEFUL TO ME!!! That site has since gone to VB4 and I left the site... (Horrible compared to what it WAS on (VB3.x (I dont remember exactly but it was beautiful))) Last edited by Dude111; 05-17-2019 at 11:31 PM. |

I don't see any issue with bumping old threads if the post holds significance to the topic of the thread being bumped, and I don't think we need a policy regarding this, whether within a single forum or site-wide. I once had a dispute with a moderator (FamilyTiesForever!) regarding the bumping of old threads. If a moderator of a particular forum were to ban bumping threads outright, this will force the creation of multiple threads focusing on the exact same topic.

I also agree with the majority here. SO WHAT if the former post was over six years ago...along as the new post is relevant. Can also be a nice way to bring back an interesting thread that may have unfortunately gotten obscured by lots of “Internet traffic”
