WWII generation born in (1910- 1925 mostly) and those Korea and Early Vietnam vets and non vets (1926-1943) The grew up with radio, books, sports and two parent homes.They were old on 9/11
Hippies as well as others ( 1944-1964) They grew up with radio, TV, books, pop music, Rock&Roll and mostly in two parent homes. They also grew up in during the Cold war. Classic TV like Leave it to Beaver 9/11
Gen Xers and PCs starting to provenance (1965-1985) They grew up with TV, music on the radio, 8 bit computers and some grew up in two parent homes. 9/11
Gen Yers, ⌨ really hit, flip📱s and 📟 (1985-2001) They grew up with TV, PCs, Laptops and cell phones and many didn't grow in two parents. They did really now the cold war. Many of them can remember 9/11
Millennials 💻 🔝 even more so 📱(2002- 2022) debt 📱and not very many had 2 parent homes. None of them remember 9/11 first hand.
I was born in 1981.
I like LitB and other classic TV shows. What do you think of this?

I think it's amazing a Gen Xer likes LITB.

Earlier Gen Xers didn't even have any computers to speak of. They were around in the mid to later 80s but not a lot of people had one.

I am not saying that the large numbers of GenXers who grown up with computer in there homes in as far as PC type computers. What gaming consoles which also used 8 bit chips?
A Geration is longer than at least 15 years and r eally ti be fair more like 20 year.
GenXers let's say the first ones wer born 1965 they would have been 18 in 1983, so probably being married in between 1987 and 1996 so having children in between 1989 and 1999. Those born in 1985 would have been 18 o2003 so would been finishing college or maybe getting married in between 2007 and 2017 so many of them would have not had children yet. Many of the younger GenXers may have had PCs growing while the younger ones would almost certently not have had any even 8 bit computers at home growing up.

Many Gen Xers were probably thrilled to have an Atari, and play Space Invaders, Galaxian, etc.

If they weren't at home doing that, they were probably playing those big video game machines at the local mall.

Cell phones were unheard of--maybe some rich people had car phones. They were drooling while watching Robin Leech describe Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous on TV. Audio cassettes were big, and CDs were starting to replace vinyl LP records. A lot of Gen Xers probably had the new thing, Sony Walkmans. Many of them probably were watching the launch of the Challenger Space Shuttle on Jan 28, 1986, on TV in their classrooms, and gasped in horror as it blew up right before their eyes. The next generation would have a kind of similar experience with the Space Shuttle Columbia, which disintegrated on reentry on Feb. 1, 2003.

I never had an Atari or Nintendo either the NES or Game Boy nor a PC until I was nearly done with high school. Yes cell phones were unheard of people didn't really start having them somewhat commonly use in high school. It was fun to watch Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous and wish you could live that way. We got a CD player between 1988 and 1994 but never had VCR. I was 4 when the challenger exploded.

I'm a very early Gen Xer, born in Jan. 1965. Sometime in the late '70s, we got an early gaming console - pong, tennis, and squash (?) -- that was so long ago, my memory has faded. I do remember it came with a little square, silver box that hooked up to the back of the TV. There were 2 large knobs, right and left, so you could compete with whomever.

I was probably around 19 when I first saw CDs. It was still very common for people to buy cassettes and vinyl records.

I was in my third year of college when the Challenger disaster happened and remember watching coverage at home (I commuted).

I remember pong--very sophisticated. Two short lines on either side of the screen banged a square dot back and forth.

Atari, Nintendo, etc. were a giant leap forward from that.

In 1996 when I was in 8th grade two of the boys (Eric and Eddie) in who were in both History and study period class managed to have not only a TV (which I was the schools) a computer and the paddles. When on occasion they would play PONG and maybe other games.

Hello Stepperry - I'm in a similar boat to you, born 1985 and I love LITB and other classic sitcoms. I grew up without cable TV so was completely cut off from current popular culture of the 90s. For me it was always classic movies from the 1940s and 50s and TV shows of the 50s and 60s. Those are my tastes to this day. I also did not have a personal computer growing up and sent my first e-mail at age 17. I did not have a cell phone until I went to college.

I don't have any use for the conventional labels "baby boomer" "millennial" etc. I find them vague and silly and people define them differently. For me the main thing is to follow what you like and enjoy it.

Good point about the generation names. I never know where the dividing lines are.

It's interesting to talk about the trends in various decades, no matter your generation.
