Do you think Ward and June were good parents? I know I sure wouldn't mind having a dad like Ward who always "talked things out" with me when I had done something wrong. I also would love having a mom like June who always had fresh cookies waiting for me when I got home from school. She was just a darn nice person.

Sure! They were good parents. If I got into some of the spots that Beav and Wally got into, I would still be grounded! lol- June and Ward thought more about feelings too. Ward thought of how his dad treated him before bawling Beav and Wally out, and I think that made him talk things out more.

Welcome to Sitcomsonline, Beaver'sbiggestfan! You just graduated from highschool or college? I just graduated hs. I'm so glad to be out of it. lol- I know you'll enjoy posting here.

Hi everyone

I liked Beavers parents. I liked the fact that they talked to their kids. Alot of parents don't talk to their kids. The kids sometime have to learn hard lessons from children on the streets. I think it's important for the parents to talk to their children about anything. So in that sense I liked his parents.

Yes, but sometimes they got way too strict then my parents would. Like skipping school, I think they would be too old fashioned with their ways then my parents. But at that time I would have loved to have them!

...skipping school WAS a big deal back then, as it should be!

As far as Ward as June being good parents...I also used to think Ward was a bit too strict, but he is very fair with his boys! Plus, he always seems to have a little smile that never seems to grow much when her hears about one of their 'wrongdoings'.

June however, MEANS well...but I'm not sure she always had the best interests of her kids in mind.

Lemme explain...she doesn't seem to care (or maybe just doesn't realize how important it is to be 'cool' around your friends) if they get ridiculed by their peers, until it gets way outta hand! Or when she would commit Wally to a dinner date or something without even asking him!

If you ask me...Ward was the more 'thoughtful' parent as far as the kids 'emotional' well being. Where June only worried if they were gonna to be physically hurt somehow.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for your reply pontoon. Ward was strict, but he didnt seem as strict as my father. But about June. She did always seem to get the boys into embarrasing messes but I dont think it was because she didn't care about how the boys felt about it. I think it was the opposite. I think she was only trying to do what she thought was best but she just didnt understand how some of the things she did would make the boys feel. Ward understood these things a little better and usually set June straight when the need arose.

My mom used to comb my hair up into this stupid little flip that I'd surely get ribbed for (or 'chopped'...remember that one?)...then as soon as I'd get down the block, I'd mess it all up again!

Boys WILL be boys!

Ya know, in a lot of ways, my mom did a lot of the stuff June did. She was the world's worst about making dates and agreeing to stuff without even asking me first. Nothing got to me more than that. I HATED it when she would agree to something for me. Now that I am older I realize she wasn't doing it just to get to me, but I sure didn't know it then!
I don't remember exactly, but whenever she did that I probably said the same stuff to her as Wally and Beav said to June. Something like: "Gee Mom, what'd you have to go and do that for?"

Very good points about June. There is no question, of course, that she cared very very much about her family. In fact, her family was her whole life, and her own upbringing had been very sheltered and proper, as we see in the example of Aunt Martha when she visits. In one early ep June says Aunt Martha was "practically the only mother I knew," but later she just says she 'spent her summers' with Aunt Martha. Regardless, it's easy to see why she was not in tune with new trends among the kids and she did not understand why Wally would not want to carry her umbrella when it was raining or why Beaver didn't want to be kissed in front of his buddies..

You're right tdr, there is no question that June cared for her family very much. She was the ideal mom in a lot of ways. She was the mom that everyone wants but no one can actually have.
