What do Miss Canfield, Lumpy and Larry have in common?

Hint: doesn’t involve Beaver but something one can notice about them when doing an activity.

Since I'm left-handed I usually notice that--I know both Larry/Rusty and Lumpy/Frank are left-handed. Maybe Miss Canfield/Diane is, too--if she is, I'm surprised I never noticed.

Yes they are all left handed. In Beaver and Poncho or Beaver’s Crush we see Miss Canfield writing with her left.

Diane Brewster is the only regular/recurring adult who is left-handed. Before, I would have said none were.

I remember my penmanship teacher looked down her nose at lefties. Hated their posture and they never got a red check mark. My uncle was a lefty and forced to use his right. He developed a stutter. It’s awful how they generalized about kids in school. I think left handed people are cool like Paul McCartney growing up.

Many people in the previous generation (the WWII people, for me) were forced to use the right hand. If it was an easy thing to do for a left hander, it would probably be a good thing, because the world is "made" for right handers. As an example, using scissors is much easier for a right hander.

I’ve read it was not a good thing to force a young child to use their right. I believe you are right brain when you use your left.

You kind of learn to be ambidextrous when you're left-handed. I play (or played) several sports right-handed, as do many left-handers. A woman who sat next to me at work many years ago used scissors with her right hand.

I think you're right about the opposite side of the brain. I've never read a reason that the huge majority of people are right-handed.

My mother told me they many times put things in my right hand when I was a toddler, to no avail. Some parents treat left-handedness as some kind of weird aberration. My friend who had a left-handed boy said something like, Nothing like this has ever happened in either of our families. She also made the comment that she had trouble teaching him how to tie a shoe--I personally don't remember that as a problem.

Just noticed Coach Grover is left handed too. I think he appears a grand total of 1 time.

Good observation indeed. I didn’t notice Grover was left handed. I don’t think we saw Larry bat but he was a lefty with a baseball.

So Miss Canfield, Larry, Lumpy and Coach Grover all lefties.

I still wonder why Beaver wasn’t trying to bat but goofing off instead. After all Ward wasn’t too happy with that D in PE. Too bad Eddie didn’t sneak over and change that D to a B.

Well, the coach was pitching with his left hand. I've noticed (as have others) that Christopher Knight on the Brady Bunch threw left handed. He didn't appear to be otherwise left handed. So Coach Grover may or may not be left handed.

Larry batted left handed. He looked like a pro and slammed a long hit.

Here's some dialog:

Beaver: Wally, dad won't like this D in gym, will he?

Wally: He won't even notice your other grades, he'll just pick on that D.

Beaver: Gimme an ink pen. I'm gonna change it to a B.

Wally: Better let me do it, Beav. You'll mess it up.
