Did anyone notice how the extras at Cheers will listen to what the main characters are saying or doing? I'm not referring to the semi-regular guys such as Paul, Phil, etc. It might be a couple sitting at the bar or a few people standing against the wall. Often, it's a single guy or girl sitting at the bar.
These folks will laugh at what's going on, and you can tell they're commenting to each other on what's happening. I can understand it when there's a rucas going on, but they'll listen to a private conversation between, for example, Sam and Diane.
Does it happen to portray a sense of the true neighborhood bar where they all know each other? Perhaps we're supposed to assume they're all regulars too but we just don't see everything.
Otherwise, they appear to be nosy eavesdroppers, lol.

I think it's simply a case of some over anxious wanna be actors who want to get their faces on camera.

With all due respect, no way. Every aspect of movies and television shows is planned. The way these actors do this, you can tell the director has *directed* them to do so.
Anyone stealing camera attention without permission would be told to knock it off, in my opinion.

I think it was planned that way...everytime something big happens everyone in the bar gets into the act..like with the million dollar episode I think everybody wanted the money so everyone came up to the bar, and whenever Norm walks in everyone says NORM!, everyone...Its an enthusiastic Bar Family.
