Default Serial and the "The Case Against Adnan Syed"

Anyone else listen to Serial and watch this HBO documentary?

Personally, I'm surprised he was convicted on the evidence presented and if given a new trial, I think there would be lots of room for reasonable doubt. I also think Jay is shady AF and his story keeps changing.

But even with all of that said, I think Adnan probably did it or was at least heavily involved with the crime.

I'm curious what you guys think...

The evidence that convicted him was pretty strong. And it still would be today. Adnan Syed is guilty of murdering Hae Min Lee. There are two main components of the case against him which his supporters, outside of stretching logic, cannot explain away:

1. Jennifer Pusateri was interviewed by police on February 26th, 1999. It was a cursory interview because her number was on Adnan's cell phone records. She told them that she didn't know Adnan and that Adnan never called her, but that it was Jay who called her. After this interview, she freaks out (because she knew what Jay had told her and did nothing: Adnan killed Hae and that Jay helped Adnan bury her and ditch evidence) and then goes to meet with police the next day on February 27th, 1999. At this meeting, she has her parents and her attorney present and she tells the police, for the first time, the story that Jay told her. At this point the cops had no idea who Jay was and had no idea where Hae's car was at. Unless you want to get into the farcical logic that Jenn's attorney would sit there and let a corrupt police department feed her information that would implicate Adnan (for reasons unknown), there is no explanation for Jenn's interview with police that got the ball rolling in the investigation into determining who killed Hae.

2. There is no innocent explanation for the cell phone records to match both Jay and Jenn's story of what happened. Adnan says he was at school from when it let out until track practice started. Phone records, and Nisha herself, confirm that this was a lie. He called her at 3:36 p.m. that day and both Nisha, Jay, and the phone records confirm this call. So what other reason would Adnan have to be with Jay at this crucial time and then lie about it? There was a window of opportunity of about 50 minutes for someone to murder Hae. She was last seen buying a snack at 2:25 p.m. and was due to pick her cousin up at 3:15 p.m. that day. Jay has an alibi for that entire duration...he was at Jenn's house playing video games with her brother. Jay had no reason to murder Hae. So why would Jay willingly admit his involvement, knowing that he could potentially face jail time, in a crime he didn't commit? Because the only way you could stretch this into believing Adnan is innocent is that the cops somehow convinced Jay and Jenn to concoct a story which matched phone records all in an effort to set up some random high school kid.

No one has been able to explain away these 2 points adequately. Nor has anyone ever taken the time to explain why, on the day that Hae was murdered, Adnan told the detective looking for her that he had asked her for a ride that day but she got tired of waiting and left. In a follow up interview with a different detective a week later, Adnan then says that he would have never asked Hae for a ride because he always had his car with him. So if he's innocent...why lie? Serial, just like Making a Murderer, did a disservice to the victim in this case by painting the perpetrators in the most favorable light possible and downplaying some pretty damning evidence against them.
