Default Screw Up On Final Season Episode?

Looking for some info or confirmation. In the final season of Alice, my Grandparents and I were watching an episode. I can't really remember anything about it. But what I do remember is that after they went to the quarter hour commercial break, they came back with a storyline that had nothing to do with the first act! I believe it was a screw up, and that act I & II were from 2 separate episodes! The only thing I really remember was that it was one of the last episodes and I'm pretty sure Linda's Debbie Walden character appeared in the second act.

What I'd like to know is:

Does anybody else remember this?
Was this a legit screw up by CBS or someone else?
Was it just a case of being a poorly written episode?

Please help, thank you.

The season 9 episode "The Night They Raided Debbie's" features Mrs. Walden. The first part is at the diner with Vera and Elliot talking about renting out their spare room in which they placed a newspaper ad for. Someone they know from the diner (customer I think) wants to rent it from them but ends up changing his mind. Mrs. Walden ends up answering their ad. The rest of the episode takes part mostly at Vera and Elliot's house, and mostly features Mrs. Walden. There are still some scenes with Vera and Elliot talking about how they want her to move out but if you watch the episode and it's cut for time or if you miss a V&E scene it might seem like a different episode. Just a poorly written episode that didn't flow well is my best guess. The title "The Night They Raided Debbie's" doesn't help either because V&E coming home to find Mrs. W holding a bingo game and them "raiding" it is only the last few minutes of the episode. The title should have been something more to do with V&E looking for a tenant.

Thank you. My grandparents were so confused and upset about the quality of the show, they never watched it again - even in syndication. Just bad, bizzare episode.

I wouldn’t t base anything on season 9. It was a watchable yet really bad season. The Mrs. Walden character was just stupid.

No argument from me, it was one of the worst final seasons ever for a show that lasted as long as it did. I still watch the show on Antenna TV from time to time.

OMG !! I loved this ep. I loved the Debbie Walden character, I thought she was hilarious! The bingo game was so funny. And Mary Grace Canfield ( Ralph from Green Acres ) guest starred !!

Well, remember Bonniegirl, I'm not 100% sure my original question has been answered correctly. It probably has, I don't know. I just remember it was in fact a bad half hour of tv.

The last season or two wasn't good. There was an episode on a few days ago (my husband watches this to kill time before Barney Miller comes on) and it was after Vera got married, but her husband's partner comes in to the diner (still as a cop - not in a different role) and acts like he doesn't know who Vera is (he makes a really generic comment like "Last time I was in this diner, there were 3 waitresses....." - it was the one where Vera stole the pony from the circus). He wondered if they were airing eps out of order, but they're not (I checked).
