Yes, in the original ABC airing, the Cowsills sang the theme song during the first season. They Cowsills version was replaced with one sung by the "Charles Fox Singers" starting with the second season. In syndication, Paramount has removed the Cowsills version from the first season episodes as well.

You can download the Cowsills version, though. Check out Bearshare or Morpheus.

Default Theme from "Love and the Bed" episode

I've got a few episodes on tape and noticed the theme for "Love and the Bed" sounds different than the others. Perhaps this is the original Cowsills version? I think my recording came from an Oxygen broadcast.

The Love American Style theme song is my favorite telivision theme song. I love the fireworks!

That is a great song, I have the cowsills version on a cassette tape that I've had for years.

As mentioned the Cowsills did the 1st Season. And I wished they had not been replaced. I adore the Cowsills--one of the most unappreciated groups of the 60s. The Rain, The Park, and Other things is one of my favorite songs. My heart breaks when I think of the hardships (financial and otherwise) they've had to go through.

I happen to have an mp3 of the Cowsills' opening theme of LAS from 1969. It sounds just as great as the Charles Fox Singers version and at the same tempo. I have never seen the video with this version and I am waiting for the DVD to be released to see this (hopefully, the network shows). If anyone's interested, IM me! Thanks!

BTW, I am also looking for clean versions of the network ending themes (if possible).

RTN today aired "Love and the Bed", which had the original Cowsills opening!!!
I was so shocked, I had to rewind my tape to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

Now that I have the DVD, I am impressed with the Cowsills version as it has the same energy as the Charles Fox Singers' version. The ending theme sounds great as well and I am aiming for Volume 2 and hopefully, the remainder of the series.

I really have grown quite fond of the Cowsills' version (and with it the firework sound effects). It's a shame the syndicated episodes don't carry it (except for that one rare episode I caught awhile back).
