Try to name bands where one member is a significantly better musician than the rest of the band. Yes it’s subjective and there maybe some “yes he is” “no he isn’t” but that’s half the fun. Let’s have it be true bands and not backing groups for one star.

I read that the Jimi Hendrix Experience had of course, Jimi the great guitar god who changed the face of music, but his backup members, Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell, were allegedly mediocre musicians. Allegedly.

I would really have to agree with you on that one.

I think I read that it was Noel Redding, when he joined the band, only knew bass from repeated listening of his favorite album by Small Faces. He may have improved, but I guess when you play with Jimi, you didn't really need to have a steller rhythm section. Or at least that's the theory.

Yeah, we were talking about Jimi, he was THE great member of The Experience, but the other two members of his band were not so much. I think I've noticed this, that when people talk about Jimi Hendrix, they either refer to his band as "The Jimi Hendrix Experience", but often I have heard them referred to in the 60's broadcasts as The Experience, that it wasn't just "all about him". They were a band, one of the first power trios, like Cream, who featured all three great musicians: Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker. They would have an influence on power trios such as Rush, who formed at the same time they were at the peak of their careers in the late 60's.
Jimi Hendrix was also briefly in Band Of Gypsys, another power trio. |
