Has there ever been a show with as many characters who influenced American pulp culture as TAGS? To this day many cops are called Barneys, military men are Gomers, etc.
The question 'What is your favorite tv show' is a taboo question in my opinion. They're a form of art & basically impossible to judge due to many factors. That being said, it may not be my favorite show, but if anyone tells me TAGS is the best tv show ever, it would be hard for me to argue due to the great characters. Fav Characters 1. Barney. True star of the show. Iconic character played by a great actor in Don Knotts. 2. Ernest T. Bass. Made such a lasting impression despite only appearing in 5 episodes. 3. Opie. Great child character played by the best child actor ever IMO. 4. Otis and Floyd (tie). Every scene they were in was funny. The characters may be to anti PC today. Least fav 1. Howard. Boring & unfunny. 2. Warren. Just bad. Other Mayberry Folk Andy, Aunt Bea, Floyd, Gomer, Goober, Darlings, Helen, Thelma Lou, Fun Girls, Ellie, little Leon, etc. Your General thoughts on TAGS? |

When I was a kid Gomer was my favorite character. As an adult, my favorite is Opie partly because the interactions Opie had with his pa's friends (Barney, Floyd, Otis, Gomer, Goober, etc..) were so realistic. "Let's all break into song" usually gets on my nerves on other shows, but TAGS did it to perfection. The Darlin' episodes are some of my favorites because the music is awesome especially "There is a Time." Briscoe's not the only one that needs a hankie when it's over. Peggy played by Joanna Moore (Tatum O'Neal's mom) was the best girlfriend Andy had. I love that song she sang on the front porch. "Down in the Valley, the valley so low..." I always thought that if Don Knotts had to leave the show, they should have written that Barney and Thel got married and moved away. Quote:
Generally, the color episodes aren't as good, but there are some pretty funny ones. Andy played the character so stiff in the color episodes, it's jarring to watch a b&w episode back to back with a color one. |
