Default I wonder why Chrissy never showed her belly

Just curious if Suzanne Somers was self-conscious for some reason about her stomach. I NEVER recall seeing Chrissy or Suzanne in anything else in any bikini or off-the-stomach outfits... I just found it strange since she was being portrayed as the "sexy" one and Janet, Terri and Cindy were all in midriff-bearing outfits more than once.

Yeah, she would have looked cute. She had a good figure! It was funny she never did being she wore short shorts and short nightgowns which showed a lot of leg and the shorts showed off her butt, so she wasn't modest about showing her body. I'm thinking it could be she already had a baby in real life before she played Chrissy. She might have had stretch marks on her tummy !

Yeah, or stretch marks from the kid she had. Usually sex symbols as big as Suzanne was don't have kids so she was an exception.

Can anyone find ANY pic showing her stomach?? I don't think any exist. Even when she posed in swimwear in magazines it was in a 1 piece swimsuit NEVER a bikini!

I did find ONE pic of Suzanne years ago and she was in a 2 piece bikini, but I can't remember where it was from.

But I know she posed for Playboy, so I'd assume she showed her stomach in that along with everything else lol

But you can airbrush a photo. Can't do that with live action.

There are some horrible birthmarks and big scars that can simply be airbrushed out.

Plus some Playboy pictorials simply avoid or cover up some body parts so we still don't know if showed stomach there.

Was she ever a Playmate of the month?? I doubt it otherwise that would've been mentioned when she was on TC.

I think it probably had to do with the censors at the time. The writers had trouble getting basic toilet jokes past the censors, can you imagine if Suzanne Somers had worn a bikini? In the episode "Chrissy's New Boss" the censors only allowed that one camera shot of Suzanne's dress cut really deeply (it's when she takes off her shawl for the first time)—you can tell the dress was sewn up a little in later scenes.

Terri wore a bikini in later seasons, but Priscilla was not as busty as Suzanne, and by that time showing skin on TV had become less of a taboo. Funny the difference a few years makes.

Oh wow! I missed a lot of these responses from when made my last! I was surprised that a discussion topic about Chrissy's BELLY would generate so many replies LMAO!

True but Laugh-in came a decade prior and was a comedy variety/sketch show (a format that got away with the edgier stuff on primetime...see The Gong Show's popsicle bit).

As a sitcom Three's Company was deemed risque. By the late 70s the religious right were out in force protesting "jiggle" shows like TC and Charlie's Angels. The strictness of the network censors is a big part of Three's Company history. See my above example of Suzanne's cleavage in "Chrissy's New Boss."

Honestly I think it came down to Suzanne being too well-endowed. People get crazy over boobs. Even though she couldn't help having a big chest Suzanne would have been dragged for being too sexual if she'd worn something like a bikini. Joyce DeWitt wore a bikini on the show and so did Priscilla, but while they looked great it wasn't a huge "distraction."

I know Cindy was, a few times, seen in off-the-stomach tops, even in the opening credits.
