How come nobody knew their cabin numbers?!

Didn't the passengers have tickets?! I'm watching season 1 dvd and they all seem to have to get their cabin numbers from Gopher or Julie upon boarding, and i'm thinking to myself "Just look at your damn tickets people!"

I know it's a TV show, but it just seems so illogical these booked passengers had no idea where they'd be staying until they boarded the ship.

I don't think that so strange . The ship is big. When you go to hotel, see the clerk get a key and they advise you where to go. Even on airlines the attendant might give you a brief area where you are to sit. Maybe now, life is more self service but it is nice to say a few words to people.

I can see asking where the location of their cabin is, like "I'm in cabin 205, where would that be?". But that's never what happens. Julie or Gopher usually have to tell them what their cabin number is first, as well as where it is which is strange.

Julie will usually look at her clipboard and say "Mr. & Mrs. So and So, you're in cabin number 205 on the Promenade Deck." Normally, passengers would already know their cabin numbers prior to boarding.

There was even one episode I just watched this week where a married couple was actually told by Gopher upon boarding that their booked cabin was near the boiler room and would be very noisy and uncomfortable for them. Before boarding, the couple had absolutely no idea in regard to ANYTHING of their cabin!

(They wound up being secretly placed in a cancelled suite by the crew, where mistaken identity hijinks naturally ensued.)

I realize it's more of a plot device used to show interaction with the crew and setup of the character's stories at the beginning of the show, but I think it would've been more realistic if passengers didn't have to be told their cabin numbers and rather just asked which direction to find the cabins they already knew the numbers to.
The way it plays, these passengers just book week long cruises where a system is used where they get whatever cabin is assigned to them. Who'd the heck want that?! Not me!

I’ve never seen Julie give anyone a key to their room. How do they get in?

I don't think the cabin doors had keys or locks. The episode I watched last week titled "Too Hot to Handle / Family Reunion / Cinderella Story" from Season 1 had a scene where Captain Stubing just opened the door and walked into the passenger's suite to say hello. No knocking! He just opened their door and waltzed right in. That totally threw me for a loop.

So apparently, no keys are needed...and no knocking either. Just walk right into any cabin you please!
