Default Looking for a 70's sitcom title... the hero is a dumb teenager named Terry !

Hi everybody...

First of all, sorry for my bad english... I'm french and I don't speak or write english enough...

Well, I'm looking for a 70's sitcom title... it was on french tv in 1979 or may be 1980 or 1981... I was very young so I'm not sure... but I guess this sitcom was created in the middle of the seventies...

This sitcom was called in french 'le grand bazar' which means almost 'the big bazaar/general store' ! It was the story of a family who was working in a little supermarket !

The son, whose name was Terry, was a teenager a bit dumb... If you remember, there was in his bedroom an huge hand-shaped seat !

What else ? Well... I don't know... I could tell you that it was a very funny sitcom but I don't believe it will be helpfull !

I hope that you understand everything and I thank everybody for the answers...

Your forum is pretty cool...

SadbutSad:

I'm sorry I can't help you - I don't recognize the show that you described. I just wanted to welcome you to the Sitcoms.com site.

Can you provide any other information? Was this a show that was originally produced in the U.S. before it aired in France?...or was it a French show that was later brought to the states? Can you name any of the other characters? I'll do some checking around, and see if I can find out anything.

(By the way, your English is just fine - no need to apologize!)

I believe the show you are thinking of is "Open All Night."
Which ran in the U.S. in 1981-1982.

Terry was the goofy teenage son of Gordon, who was the manager of an all night convenience store called the "364 Store," because they were open every day except Christmas...

Hi Jimbo...

Well... I'm absolutely sure this show was originally produced in the U.S...

What else ? I saw the actor who played Terry, the son, in Alf (I mean... the tv serial !) He was a guest star (kinda...) playing a hunter in the woods. He was trying, with a partner, to kidnap Alf for money...

Nothing more for the moment, sorry...

Thank you for my English... but i really need to practice...

Thanks Jenny! Now I remember this show! I don't recall any of the other characters, but I remember Bubba Smith starring in it. I only watched it once or twice, and didn't really care for it.

SadbutSad: Bubba Smith was a professional football star over here before he went into acting. He also appeared in several of the "Police Academy" movies as "Officer Hightower".

Actually, Terry was Gordon's stepson, because I remember Terry always refered to him as Gordon.
I vaguely remember this show, but the Terry character was pretty funny, kind of a live action "Shaggy."

Jimbo : Well... I remember Bubba Smith as Officer Hightower of course ! I'm not sure but is there any show based on the 'Police Academy' movies on U.S. tv ?

TJL : I don't remember if Terry was Gordon's stepson ; in fact I don't remember this show very well ! But it's pretty cool to find some informations about this show because here in France this show is not even a souvenir ! Too short... one season ! One & only broadcasting on french tv I guess !
