Default Re-imagining old sitcoms with ethnic or diverse people as leads

What if old sitcoms like Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, Gilligan's Island, Father Knows Best, Dennis the Menace, etc. have actors of different ethnicities cast into their leading roles? How can viewers and fans of old sitcoms take the re-imagining? Imagine the cast of Gilligan's Island with various ethnicities or just one different ethnicity, almost like the original. Thoughts?

That's cool to think about but I doubt the races would have anything to do with the stories so there wouldn't really be a difference. If these same shows were made today we could hope the casting directors would simply look for the best representation of the character rather than the actor's skin color. At least that's my hope for an eventual post-race society.

It may not but some users on here are close to those levels of needing to shut up.

I think the idea completely SUCKS. Just like reboots. Classics need to be left ALONE!

I don't know exactly who you are referring to however, my dislike for reboots have nothing to do with diversity. I am nearly 50 years old and I do not like reboots. I am a purist who believes that originality should be left alone and not tampered with. That does not make someone a bigot.

A lot of these sitcoms are dated and haven't stood well against the test of time. Some but not all could use re- imagining.

99% of reboots suck. Hollywood has no imagination.

As long as it's true to the original premise and doesn't enter Norman Lear or Chuck Lorre territory I really don't care.

Aren't they already going to be doing that with Bewitched? I'm not against diversity but it's a terrible idea to reboot a show, simply for that reason, because it feels forced and becomes the sole focus of the plot. Unless you're doing something new and completely original and fresh (other than changing the color of the actors' skin color) that turns the old show on its head, leave the classics alone!

I believed that would be very impossible to see the full range of classic sitcoms(mostly from the 60s, the 70s & the 80s) being revived with ethnic/diverse people being in the main cast but Hollywood should be thinking about coming up with new ideas for Television as of this moment.
