Default Idea for a spinoff

Instead of trying to spin off the Kelly family, whom nobody cared about, why didn’t they spin off Alice instead? They could have said that with the kids growing up and moving out, they didn’t need a housekeeper anymore. So Alice returns to The Golden Spoon diner. The new show would have been called “Alice”, and focused on Alice, her fellow waitresses, and her difficult boss, Mr. Foster.

Members of the Brady family could have dropped by the diner occasionally as customers. “Next week on Alice, Marcia drops by for a caramel fudge sundae. Will Alice give it to her? Tune in Friday at 8:00 on ABC!”

Probably a good idea - but I assume the kids were done with their Brady characters by then.

The Alice character was great, but I doubt she could carry a show on her own. If she had been given a her own series then the only way I could see it working would be for her to marry Sam. It might also have worked if the Kelly's Kids spinoff had taken place with Alice being hired as their new housekeeper. Then again, maybe not.

And would it include the likes of Linda Lavin and Vic Tayback? And take place in Arizona?

Yeah ! That is what I was thinking too! It seems to be WAY too similar to a another show that had a waitress named Alice who worked in a diner !!

I could see a combined scenario of Alice marrying Sam but her wanting to keep working (part time and not be a live in) at the Kelly's. It could focus on them at home being married and also her at work with the Kelly's and maybe an occasional ep focusing on Sam's butcher shop!!

Also, in the “Alice” spinoff, Alice would have a friend (Kay) who wears her hair in a beehive and is sort of a floozy.

She had a friend named Kay. She took Alice's place when she left and went to work for the diner. But, Kay was not a floozy.
