Julie Anne is adorable, and Cindy was such a neat character. I was very glad we got some kind of a resolution regarding her (and two of the other Lost Girls, as well).

I wish we had learned more about Cindy during her 18 on-screen appearances on FOL and DS: who her family was, what she did during the five-year period when we no longer saw her, etc. I would have liked to have seen her graduate with Natalie, and maybe even stop by Edna's Edibles for some delicious quiche -- or bad Chinese food -- but it wasn't in the cards. She would have been a better choice to (re-)add to the cast than Kelly, as we had previously been introduced to her, and she had a history with the show. I could definitely see her bouncing off both Blair and Jo.

One thing I really liked about Cindy, which was missing from the other characters, was her gymnastic ability. We got to watch her do a backflip on the show, and had she stayed on, the writers could have incorporated her acrobatics into the show during scenes like "Fear Strikes Back", etc. That would have been cool!

I also wonder about the broken home that Cindy came from. Clearly, her parents had money, as Cindy didn't seem to be a scholarship student (unlike Nancy and Jo). Her parents were divorced, but she didn't seem to be low-income, as she never mentioned financial problems.

Mrs. Garrett was in charge of room assignments during Season Two, and we know she thoughtfully kept Sue Ann and Cindy together in the same room during that season, too; I wonder how Cindy might have felt once Sue Ann graduated? During her final year at Eastland, she wouldn't have been "buddies forever" with Sue Ann having moved on, and the "four musketeers" seemingly never interacted with her during Season Five... at least, not that we ever saw.

That last year at Eastland must have been very lonely for Cindy.

Is that why she became a model? Alternately starving herself and then eating, as a way of punishing herself for her parents' divorce and her loneliness at Eastland? I hope not.

Good points Retro, I guess it was similar to Tootie being without Natalie. I’d like to think the lost girls and core four interacted off screen, since they didn’t show class scenes very often. I’m sure Cindy still hung with Natalie like old times

Cindy was by far my favorite fol girl ever. I had the biggest crush on her when I was going thru puberty. As beautiful as Blair and Tootie were, I liked Cindy and wish she would of been in more episodes after season 1. I remember when they did the show when the lost girls returned and I couldn't wait to see her, she didn't disappoint me.

I also thought that the subtle ambiguous storyline of is she/isn't she (lesbian or bi) could of gone a long way. Remember, this show was all about the crazy curiouitys of growing into adulthood. They could of got a lot of mileage and publicity out of that storyline.

I'd like to believe that, but we never saw any evidence of it. I mean, not even a "Mrs. Garrett, I ran into my old dorm mate Cindy Webster today. She says hi." "Oh, Natalie, tell her 'hi back' from me. I miss seeing the old Eastland girls now that I have my own shop."

She definitely had blossomed in those five intervening years.

But she was gorgeous, even as a kid. I was younger than her, and I still remember idolizing her a bit. She seemed not only fun and interesting, she also seemed approachable.

I can't imagine an on-going bi/lesbian story arc playing well in 1980; it was likely controversial enough as a one-off in 1979. Still, it's fun to imagine how that kind of storyline would have played out!

The producers could have done something with the broken home aspect; instead, we got Jo.

Yeah I doubt it would’ve worked. Maybe after they demoted her though they could’ve explored a bit since she wasn’t a main char

I do think you are right that that worked better with side characters in that era. Usually one-off guest stars, but I seem to recall Blanche's brother Clayton, on GG, being recurring (correct me if I'm wrong).

If it would of been a slow burn, ambiguous story, then absolutely it could of been done and been done successfully. I'm talking about a making the audience wonder story, not an all-out SHE'S A LEZ story. It would of been great character development for Cindy. FOL prided itself on controversial teen girl issues.
