The background sound effects made the cases either more scary, funny, sad,or "cute". Some of my favorite background sound effects where
-The "distressing"music in the Spanish Lotto scam -The "creepy" sound when they profile Christian Gerhsrstraster in the Tom/Linda Sohus case -The beautiful music in the "Magic Rock" segment |

In the "Carol" segment, the opening music is soothing as she's driving through the countryside of eastern Connecticut. Then, when the black pickup truck ahead comes in to view, the music abruptly shifts loudly to creepy mysterious music (almost as if to signal the danger that is ahead). It all fit the moods perfectly!

I have a few:
- The drum beats during the scene where the bikers twirl their chains at Gus Hoffman. - The music that played as Kaitlyn Arquette drove back home - The ambient, airy music that played during special alerts - The piano melodies during the Micki Jo West segment - The jingly piano melodies at the end of the Veronica Jefferson case |

The scary reveal music after an ominous moment (One example I can think of is when Ricardo Caputo killed his psychologist and her parents opened the door to her bedroom and found her)
The buildup to a police chase (Randall Utterback--those drums go crazy right before the music kicks in) The music whenever criminals are being stealthy. There's always a cool tune when they're planning something or a heist is about to take place. That moan they do in the Leonard Derickson and Laferte/Picard segments. So creepy! The saxophone music they play in many segments about prostitution (Massage Parlor segment). The music played when e Rick Church breaks into Colleen Ritter's house. It's terrifying, and fitting for a horror movie. ...and pretty much all the background music on UM. I can't think of a tune they ever played that was bad. Even the cheesy honky tonk tune in some segments always fit the case (Danny Gordon is a big example of this). |

Any time that UM had to portray strippers or exotic dancers - not only is the performing cringey, the music gets pretty cheesy at times, too.

Mt favorite background music is from the Fish Springs/Kelsay house segment. Beyond chilling and it added a lot to the atmosphere of the segment.

that transition is also used on the glen and Bessie hyde segment at the beginning although I think the music is a little different. I love the acoustic guitar and harmonica used in the glen and Bessie Hyde segment. it really makes you feel like you are in the old American west. I also love the unique acoustic guitar sounds used in other segments like Audrey moate and the cocaine tunnel segment (agua prieta drug bust). |

I have a several. Even though these cues were used countless times on the show, I always tend to associate them with specific segments.
* The music cue that alternates between two notes that is used at the beginning of the Little Miss Panasoffkee segment when the hitchhikers first notice her body and police recover it. * The cue heard when Georgia Rudolph goes to Marietta, GA. As the camera pans over pictures of various homes in the area, a slow by somewhat happy-sounding piece plays. As they pan to the house where Sandra Jean allegedly lived, the music slowly becomes more ominous and sounds much more like a typical UM cue. * The sudden ominous cue plays when police show Hugh Harlin the dog leash used to strangle his wife after he said that the dogs came back leashed. |
