Default Questions after finishing the series ....

I watched the entire series on Channel 33 but I'm not sure if they showed every single episode; did Ellie May really not marry anyone in the end? Or Jethro?

And Granny and Jed just lived out their lives in the mansion?

Thanks!

There was no series finale because the show was canceled in 1971 without advance notice. Paul Henning was anticipating a tenth and final season but CBS pulled the rug out from under him. The same thing happened to Green Acres (although it probably would have gone past its seventh season if Jay Sommers had a say in it).

Honestly I don't know if a tenth season would have been very good. From what I remember about season 9 the writing was growing a little stale. But if it meant getting proper closure it would have been worth it.

WOW! I've been a fan of both series for years and I never knew all that!

I also don't think a tenth season would have been very good.

according to the CBS special in 1992 after the series ended Jed split all his money between Elly & Jethro and moved back to the hills.

back then series didn't usably have finales. "THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW & "THE FUGITIVE" did but those were rare exceptions. And "I DREAM OF JEANNIE" was going to but NBC had to switch a couple episodes around because of their coverage of the Apollo 13 crisis.

Unless the production company or the stars decide to end a show aren't most cancellations done without advance notice. Weddings and births are generally done to spike the ratings in hopes of keeping a show alive. If Henning was going to go in that direction season 9 would have been the time. The show had dropped in the ratings losing about 2 million viewers between the 7th and 8th season. Season 9 continued the downward trend, why not some midseason adjustments to see if things could be turned around.

Green Acres had a rather strange final season. The final two episodes were backdoor pilots for new series, that would at least suggest that Henning knew the fate of Green Acres and decided to use the final episodes as an opportunity to market potential new shows.

Confused A Missed Opportunity for some reason

It is surprising that they never had either Elly Mae or Jethro get married and have little kids. They were both well past the too young to be married stage (as Chip & Rob were in My 3 Sons, there they couldn't wait for the kid to turn 16 to marry them off). Jethro and Elly were both in their late 30's or early 40's by near the end of the show. Kids would have offered a funny opportunity for the show to explore that they never went into since there were never children on Bev. Hillbillies.

According to the 1980s Beverly Hillbillies Reunion movie...Jed and Granny eventually moved back to the Hills... Jethro and Elly stayed in Beverly Hills... Jethro got married and had lots of kids and Elly ran a "zoo"?? from what I remember.
