Default Ballad of Larry Mondello

The carnival had come to Mayfield
Beaver had no money to spend.
He bought a rat from Charles Fredericks
and Ward had no money to lend.

Larry gave Beaver a call,
asked him to come as his guest.
Since Beaver had no money,
he hoped it wasn’t said in jest.

Not to be an Indian asker,
he would ask his mom for some dough.
She said “no allowance this week, Larry.”
So the answer was a definite “no.”

He had run up a tab at the drugstore,
on bubble gum, sodas and candy.
There would be no money for Larry
so he wasn’t feeling so dandy.

Larry said he invited Beaver
if he found money would it be okay.
He remembered the emergency money,
he was determined to find a way.

He sat down at the sewing basket
where his mother kept the cash,
He gave the basket a little shake
and decided to take the stash.

Larry tossed the money out the window
coins and bills landed on the ground,
called Beaver to come right now,
they would do a lost and found.

When Beaver arrived he said, Larry
come on let’s go to the fair,
Larry said let’s look in the yard first
maybe find stuff there.

They found nickels, dimes, half dollars
he thought it was totally insane,
He asked Larry where did it come from,
‘Maybe it fell out of a plane.”

They had found about four dollars,
Played games, won prizes, ate junk,
Larry still had money to lose,
thought he’d give away a hunk.

He gave change to Wally and Tooey,
They took the money and run.
Larry still had 30 cents,
he thought of his last moments of fun.

Mrs. M had telephoned June,
she asked if Larry was there,
June had said ‘no’
The two had gone to the fair.

Mrs. M said money was missing
found Beaver had none of his own.
So Larry had raided the basket
now he would have to atone.

Beaver came home with his spoils
told Ward he had found the change.
“Larry said it fell out of an airplane”
but Beaver thought it strange.

Beaver was sent to his room
Mrs. M would be there right quick.
Ward would get to the bottom of this,
Beaver thought he was gonna be sick.

They came to the Cleaver house,
Larry insisted it fell from a plane.
Mrs. M was so annoyed
she didn’t want to hear that again.

Larry was pressured to talk
he knew he had nothing to gain.
“Please don’t punish Beaver.”
He thinks it really did fall from a plane.

Larry told the whole story
how Beaver thought his version was true
Larry thought as he picked up money
he almost believed it too.

Mrs. M. was glad he confessed
Larry apologized to the Beaver.
Mrs. Mondello started to the door
Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Cleaver.

And they heard her exclaim
As she walked out with Fatty,
“Why do you do
these
things
when your
father’s in
Cincinnati?”

Really good! Here's a short on the fly poem from when Larry stayed over--not totally accurate with the episode (like yours was), but forgive me, it's a quickie:

Beaver knocked and woke up Ward
'cause Larry wasn't felling too good.
June was kinda worried
that it might it might have been her food.

June comforted and consoled Larry
and then she felt his head.
As she pulled up the covers and tucked him in
she found candy wrappers in his bed.

Mrs. Mondello came to pick up Larry
and found out Beaver gave him a punch.
She asked him, "Where, in the stomach?"
She was worried he might lose his lunch.

Very good stevea and thanks! Thanks Bonniegirl! They are fun to write if you see the episode enough. I have always loved Found Money because Larry was such a typical kid in that. Had to get money somehow to have fun at the fair but trouble awaited him. Since it’s almost Christmas I tried to end it like The Night Before Christmas.
