Has BBC America adopted a image to show all drama shows now? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

When BBC America first hit the airwaves in the 90's it was a excellent channel that showed the best of the UK ranging from British sitcoms to talk shows and even reality shows but if you look at BBC America today I noticed that they seem to be focusing on drama shows and I wonder if this is a new attitude that BBC America is trying out to attract new fans to their channel? Take for instance when you look at BBC America's programming schedule they show nothing but reruns of Downton Abbey and Doctor Who and Star Trek The Next Generation along with the other two Star Trek series Deep Space Nine and Voyager and I cannot figure out why BBC America does this. A second thing BBC America does and this is a habit that they always do with dramas is that they hype up a drama then BBC America only shows like nine episodes a season and then makes fans wait a year for the new season and I can't understand this habit. For example when BBC America launched the new season of Doctor Who BBC America spent a lot of time and money making teasers and promotional commercials announcing the anticipated new season but when the new season of Doctor Who finally debuted in October BBC aired the same season debut episode over and over and then made last Sunday's episode of Doctor Who the season finale and now in order to see more Doctor Who episodes BBC America is making fans wait till 2020 to see the new season of Doctor Who which I believe is just wrong. The same thing happened to Torchwood and because of this habit BBC America cancelled Torchwood for good. I think why BBC America switched to a drama image is to gain more viewers and a wider audience to save the channel

I wish BBC America aired Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The 3rd Star Trek show that sometimes airs is the original. They haven't aired any comedies in a long time.

Hi, Bestie! I agree with you that BBC America does not show comedies. Dr. Who could be a comedy, but is not advertised as one. Why don't they show reruns of Benny Hill or Black Adder? Even Monty Python would be good. But maybe it is because modern British comedy is not funny. What do you think?
