The Mortgage Burning episode - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

This is the episode where George Jefferson keeps calling to offer the house next door for Mike & Gloria at crazy low prices to piss Archie off. I just watched the episode and for the first time it made me wonder why Archie would be so pissed about Meathead living next door. It makes no sense.

Wouldn't he want his little girl close by as a priority? And besides not liking Meathead, he's out of the house and in his own home now, so it shouldn't bother Archie so much that he's next door because he's out of his house finally...(and his refrigerator lol)

I think the writers made too much of a fuss showing Archie wanting them to move far away. I think he loves his little girl more than he hates the Meathead and would be happy she's only moving right next door.

I watched this episode quite a few times before but this is the first time I thought about this. I think Archie would've been just as happy as Edith was.

I agree. I know that Archie didn't want Mike around, but the storyline overall has never made since to me.

Especially since he wouldn't have no longer been in his house. This was the crossover episode 77-78 season

This was actually a 1975 episode titled "Mike Makes His Move". It was the last episode of the 74-75 season. What crossover episode from 77-78 are you referring to? Or do you mean this one and just got the year wrong?

Can that be considered a crossover episode because George called Gloria from his apartment on "The Jeffersons"?

Right, that's when Lionel said his pop was evil

That was the 1st Crossover between the Jeffersons and All in the Family out of 3

Yes it was a total of 3 Crossovers

1975-Mike Makes his Move-George and Lionel

1978-Mike's New Job-Only George

1979-The Family Next Door-Only Louise

Yes that would still be considered a crossover because the Jeffersons was a CBS show and was seen on another CBS show. The other two crossovers George and Louise were inside the Bunkers home

I would have liked to have seen Edith crossover to visit on "The Jeffersons". It would've been logical since she was close with Louise and also fun to see. No Archie though, because there's no way he'd make a trip into Manhattan to visit them.

That's what a lot of people were probably thinking would happen eventually back during that time but it never did. Only Louise coming back to the Bunkers house

I think it definitely would've happened if the show needed a ratings boost in the beginning, but I believe "The Jeffersons" was a big hit right out of the gate and never needed propping up by AITF characters crossing over to visit. It still would've been nice to have seen Edith visit Louise though.

yeah i think since the jefferson was a top 5 show it never needed to have aitf characters visit. Thats why the show no longer aired after all in the family after season 1

I was upset when Sammy Davis Jr. crossed over to The Jeffersons and Weezie acted like she never met him, despite the fact she met him on AITF.

She didn't have any interaction with Sammy davis on AITF. She did see him see at the bunker house but didn't actually talk to him. So I can see how the character would remember since it was so many years later

But she would of obviously mentioned that they crossed paths before, especially considering she was trying to get Sammy to stick around.

I can see that but for some reason the producers never wanted new viewers of the Jeffersons to know it came from AITF. So that's why they were acting like her moment with sammy never existed lol
